Re: Unknown crash with Gens
Without an error message this is a bit hard to troubleshoot (even if these are Dutch, as you can see by my location).
A few things you could try:
- Update DirectX: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...a-9b6652cd92a3
- And run any other updates through Windows Update
- What OS is she using? XP?
- Is sound properly configured? Ie: proper speaker configuration etc? Selecting 5.1 surround sound (in the Windows Control Panel for Sound) when you have only stereo speakers causes issues with some apps for me.
- Temporarily turn off virus scanner to see if that has any impact
- Make sure no other apps are running in the background
- Do a fresh reboot before starting Gens
- Try running Gens while in safe mode (not sure if that'll actually work though... never tried it)
Note that I'm not a Gens specialist (haven't run it in years) -- these are just generic troubleshooting steps.
Re: Unknown crash with Gens
Oops, I deleted that she uses Win XP.
Even though help-desk software is slow, I was still able to see to it that everything, including the video card, was updated. We've tried with the anti-virus off, and no go. Haven't tried safe mode yet, as I forgot it actually exists. But doesn't that disable internet use? We want to use Gens online, so that may not be an option.
Thanks for the reply. If you have anything else to add, that would be nice. But I'm guessing I should probably try asking other forums too? The main Gens forum was down, and this is one of the top emulation sites, so I just came here. Any advice as to where to look would be good, too.
Update:
I've looked into sound. Her settings were fine, but just to be sure, we tried them all, and the emulator still crashed. Her sound drivers are up to date, too. Even picking "no sound" causes Gens to crash, which means the error is either Gens or some sort of conflict.
And safe mode did not change anything for the better.
I've got no clue as to why it's not working, when her computer can run every other emulator out there, save maybe PS2.
Re: Unknown crash with Gens
As far as emulation forums go, I think www.emutalk.net is a bit bigger, so you might get a better response. However when I just tried it, the site was unbearably slow.
Re: Unknown crash with Gens
I'll see what I can find out. But thanks for your help. :)
