Enable disk sharing in the other computer by right-clicking the hard disk of the destination computer.

speaking about disk space, my hard drive reads that there's 18gb left when there should be 23gb left, space taken up by nothingness. i have checked through hidden files and folders, is there a way to clear out this wste space without formatting? the file system is ntfs, on a 70gb partition.

TweakNow PowerPack Professional 2006 or Advanced System Optimizer.
Both recommended to clean up junk, registry and much more.
If it's a Windows problem only a format will help, maybe a convert from NTFS to FAT32.

You might try running the Disk Cleanup tool, under accessories, system tools.
It'll let you clear out temporary files, your internet cache, and all but your most recent System Restore file. System restore can eat up tons of space, so it may be one culprit.

Other than that, take a look in c:\windows\temp and see about manually cleaning that out. If there is nothing there, go look in your user profile's temp directory.

c:\Documents and Settings\%profile%\Local Settings\Temp

%profile% is your profile name of course..

I once had 3GB of such trash.Since then,System Restore is turned off the first on a new WinXP install.

You can delete manuallly the info in System Volume Information folder in each disk, just enable "Show Hidden Files".

i have tried deleting temp files, and put hidden files on. i've done a select all on the drive and it says 45gb used but there's only 20gb free, so 5gb is used for no reaosn. It happened on another disk, i deleted everything on it, hidden files expecially as there was only data on it, and 3gb of nothingness was used.

It's not absolutely urgent but it would be nice to know if there is a solution.

You can always try this trick: Start your PC in DOS and type 'format c:'. Guaranteed to free the maximum diskspace :p

First, the drive is on d, and second I don't want to format the drive, becasue it takes a lot of time to reinstall everything, so I was wondering of a solution.

He's right y'know, my 'lost' disk space magically came back somehow. Besides it's getting repaired (missing pins) and shouldn't happen again.
