Discord age verification in March by ID and Face recognition

As a quick reminder, EU countries, Commonwealth countries, several States in the US and Asian countries are pushing for age verification laws. All social media platforms will require this eventually.

It's a legal requirement, not because Discord is making you do it on their own.

I will not comply. If it means I miss out on things, then so be it.

Discord has already been hacked a few times, as have their 3rd-party age verify partners.

So far Discord's ID partners have had security issues, which is a far bigger problem than Discord itself being hacked. Reminder, those "partners" are being used by other companies as well, so it is more serious.

That being said, age/ID verification is coming, and it is a legal requirement for platforms to comply. They are not doing it just to harvest your data, there is a thing called "the law", involved as well.

I am not talking about the United states alone. Also, I am not American, and I do not live there (or have never been anywhere near that continent!)

When I say legal requirements, I am talking about:

- United States (both federal and state level - blue and red states)
- Commonwealth countries (UK, Canada, Australlia, New Zealand - When one does something, the others follow)
- Several Asian countries
- European Union (Both at individual nation levels, and at EU level)

If enough countries do it, the rest will join.

For EU at least, something is being worked on. Have fun reading. This is not deployed live yet, but it will be used.
The following material is EU Official btw

Also, something extra for EU, I would pay attention on the second half of 2026 (July-December). There could be developments on that front.

Well, I joined in 2004, which means I couldn't possibly be a child. But, when (or if) the times comes, and you insist that I provide personal info or get banned, then I'd ask that you delete my account and all my posts at that time.

It's in your hands. I won't argue further.

I'd guess out of 38k+ members, you'll have to ban all but 5 of them. That will keep you busy for quite a while. Good luck! :)

When the time comes, and they start requiring forums to comply (not just big platforms), I would rather shut the thing down, rather than force people to verify.

But we can worry when the time comes
