Pokemon Emerald - Trading

Just a quick question I wanted cleared up. Can you trade pokemon through emulators? Or do I just stick to the limited cheats?

Cheating is a lot easier compared to actual trading through a VBA cable and onto your GBA. Though the only Pokemon ROM that I know allows you to trade to FireRed is Shiny Gold.
