Saving on Nestopia

I downloaded Nestopia off this site and I downloaded a dragon warrior rom. After I played for a while, I saved. Then I went back into the the game the next day it was gone. What happened and how can I save my file?

I don't know why this happens for some people, but if the in-game save fails you can try using the Emulator save states. You should be able to save and load states from one of the dropdown menus, or you can look up the keyboard keys assigned to those functions in your documentation

How would I go about doing this? It's not in preferences and other than that I wouldn't go straight to app support as usual, so where is the documentation?
