Changing .IMG file names, will .SUB still work?

This isn't quite about PlayStation emulation, but I think it's related enough. When you create a disc image in CloneCD, it makes an IMG, CCD, SUB and CUE file. These all have the same name. I know that the .CUE file references the .IMG, but that can be changed in a text editor. I was wondering whether if I changed all of the files to a different name, but changed the .CUE file, whether it would still work OK, or will I need to rip it again?

Just make sure the .cue file refers to the exact name of the images. Changing it to .sub won't do anything, because its content will remain the same.
