One of the reasons I bought my P.C. was to play all those great shooters I missed out on when all I had was an x-box. Can anyone recommend a fps with a decent map editor or one that didn't appear on home consoles.

As a start, Half-Life 2, COunter-Strike Source, DoD come with the Soruce SDK, which includes the map editor called Hammer. It's pretty easy to learn the basics, and it can also make maps for the old Counter-Strike/ Half-Life 1 games, although you're better off using an odler version for them.
Hal on the PC coems with a map editor, as does Unreal Tournament to my knowledge. Good luck wiht your mapping, it's a good way to get recognition in the community, and should you attend LAN parties playing a map you made is alwasy good fun.

Before playing Half-Life 2, consider playing Half-Life 1 to keep the storyline.

Ah, the good old days
I used to build them with a friend of mine. We both made extremely difficult maps for each other to try to complete. With lots of those nasty green-fire throwing monsters in them. Great time :)
