Hiya, all of my ps1 games {I've got 5 or 6 at the mo}, have terrible sound, I'm certain I've tried all plugins but the sound is very stuttery and crackly it has the odd good moment where the sound is ok, but then it goes too fast, then too slow and then either way it's got all of these distortions!! Do I have to buy a sound card to get rid of the problems or is my intergrated Standard AC97 C-Media Device good enough to get good sound, it's the same for almost every N64 game I have too, how can I fix this???

Thanks! :D

i have the integrated sound and it works for me. Try updating your sound drivers.

Does it happen with PC games as well and playing music? Remember that the S3 Graphics is very crappy. I've tried running a Nintendo 64 game in Project64 and the sound was really horrible.

I don't think your integrated sound is the problem, but it's always a good idea to keep your drivers up to date.

i dont think you have the system specs yet to push these systems. wait til you get your upgrades then that thing will fly.

onboard sound isnt as crappy as it used to be. hell mine has built in 5.1 that rivals sound blaster cards, the box i built for my mom has 5.1 built in as well

I've got the lastest sound drivers, so it's not the onboard sound that's problem mmmmm..... I've upgraded my RAM to 512MB today and I'm getting a new graphics card soon, once I finally decide which one is best. I might have to do a bit more fiddling about with plugins, is there a graphics/sound plugin combination that will do the trick? So when I get a new card will the sound get better or is it a seperate issue?

I think it'll get better. Like I said before, when Project64 doesn't reach the 60 FPS, the sound will be jumpy to keep syncronization. The integrated S3 Graphics is a pain in the ass to emulate Nintendo 64, the FPS won't even reach the 40 FPS. I know because before I had my first video card (Radeon 9200 SE) I had that S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR crap.

You'll see, with your new card everything will be OK.

Ok, so it's just mainly the emulators, I'll do some fiddling about with the plugins, can't wait to get a new card.;)

butters hit the nail on the head.
when the frame rate in these emulators dont reach 60fps, the audio will do just as butters said. itll stutter and skip and do loop de loops just to try and keep up.

once you get the new card trust me everything will go so much smoother. everything thing will look better and babies all over the world will smile (seriously thats how youll feel once you see the performance)
