View Full Version : ePSXe 1.5.2 Problem - Incompatibility with Dualshock 2

First post, would firstly like to say hi to everyone.

Secondly, I think I'll go straight to my most frustrating problem.

Recently, I started up FF IX again, the most problematic PSone title for emulation I believe with 1.6.0 ePSXe. Of course, cinematics don't work so I switched like everyone recommended to version 1.5.2.

Now here is where my problem arises. When switching to 1.5.2, I have controller incompatibility problems. I have a Dualshock II and Dualshock I connected to my computer via USB with a Mayflash Super Dual Box Pro.

When configuring controls for the PSX emulator and assigning controls to the analog positions, it will not register analog inputs from the Dualshock II (in controller port 1) correctly and displays a unreasonable RLGSLIDE which does nothing for me during games. Essentially even before I try to input anything from the Dualshock II to the analog sticks in the 1.5.2 menu, it immediately reads RLGSLIDE after I click the button so I can configure it. After it is read as RLGSLIDE I cannot input any other key into that position unless it is from the analog sticks from my Dualshock I. All other inputs to any other section on the epsxe controller config menu works perfectly fine.

The analogs are not detected as axes because when I input the analog controls by the Dualshock II into other buttons (ie directional buttons) it registers them as Joy1 up, joy1 down, joy1 left, etc.

However, I do not have this problem with the other controller, a Dualshock I, which is in controller port 2. The axes are recognized without fuss.

Any help to resolve this issue would be very much appreciated, and I would prefer to keep using the ePSXe family of emulators.

Things that may be important to note...

I have both versions 1.6.0 and 1.5.2 ePSXe installed on my computer, and there is only one registry for epsxe in my regedit window

ATI X1900GT
Intel dual core 820
Mayflash Super Dual Box Pro
Dualshock II controller connected to port 1 (analog sticks not recognized as axes)
Dualshock I connected to port 2 (analog sticks are recognized w/o fuss)
I have Joy 2 Key allowing my DS2 to have mouse capabilities, but I always turn the program off before using ePSXe

Thanks in advance for any responses.

EDIT: Conversely, when I try to assign the dpad buttons from the Dualshock 1, ePSXe 1.5.2 does not register those either. I believe ePSXe is only detecting the analog sticks of my Dualshock 1 and the dpad of my Dualshock 2. Is this an inherent problem where ePSXe is not compatible with Playstation controllers thru a Super Dual Box Pro?

Well, unless you have an inordinately strong preference, it couldn't hurt to try PSXeven. It runs FF9 just as well as ePSXe in my modest opinion.

I've never used a PS gamepad with any emu so that's the extent of my advice, but its worth a shot.

Have you tried unplugging your dualshock II controller when you
attempt to set teh controll configurations? I didn't think you could
use a DS II on a PSone so maybe you should try that.

I will try unplugging it, thanks for the suggestion.

Unplugging the controllers and USB did not seem to work. I do not have a PS1 to plug my PS2 controller into either.

Also, this is bothering me to why it doesn't work because I have 1.6.0 installed and there is not a problem with the controllers there, but only in 1.5.2. This isn't that important to me anymore since I found a cheap way to fix this, but I have to use my dualshock 1, whereas I would prefer to use my dualshock 2, so I'll still appreciate the help if any more can be given.

Thanks for the suggestions and other responses tho.

Only one possible conclusion, ePSXe 1.5.2 doesn't seem able to support DualShock 2 as it can with the latest vesion of ePSXe 1.6.0.
