pokemon save error

can someone help me
i plaz pokemon fire red on the visual boz advance but i can't save the game when i defeat the elite four it apears the following mesage
"save error. please exange the backup memory"

my fire red always has this error, from the first time i try to save it
leaf green works fine for me though
i would also like to know

i used the states but i need to save in the game to continue the game after the
