Is it particularly dangerous to install programs under safe mode? There's this program I downloaded (http://matrix.dumpshock.com/mcmackie/) that says to bypass XP permission problems I should install it under safe mode. Judging from it's source, the program looks legitimate, but you know...

What is exactly that permission problem you're describing?

The programmer doesn't specify.
When you try to install under normal mode, Windows says it needs to update files. Supposedly (I haven't tried this step) if you agree to update and restart, the installation just asks to update files again over and over.

This program replaces critical Windows XP files,no ?
Probably Windows File Protection pops up...just choose that you accept the new files, reboot and it won't ask you again. ;)
But first...scan that file with antivirus/antispyware software.
Also create a Restore Point before changing those files.

cibomatto2002: Check the link above. It's safe... not a link to the file, just the webpage that links to the file.
VampyR: Thanks. I went ahead with the update and it installed correctly. Either I misread the instructions or the instructions were wrong but there are no permission problems with XP.
