This may be already be duscussed in the old forum but anyway which of them you consider to be the best?
I personally have PS2 and GC and prefer PS2 because it has lots of RPG's.
However generally I prefer GBA and older systems.

This has has already been discussed everywhere way too many times.

PS2 - Best
GC - Meh, has some good games
XBox - Terrible, worst ever

i like the gamecube; granted it doesn't have alot of games yet but it is getting alot more and some of the ones it has are great: ex: P.N.03, Metriod Prime, Legend of Zelda, and so on...

at the moment, the ps2 is the best system; great games, great gameply, great everythin, except it is huge

The X-Box must got to hell, go to hell and die...
the graphics were supposed to be unparalleled: Lie, the graphics suck
the games were supposed to be better than other: lie, most of the games suck big monkey ass
yes, you don't need a memory card, but what good is that without any good games to keep on it...

my opinion...

onewecallgod
September 30th, 2003, 23:36
yes this has been argued one too many times

i remember having an argument with scotchguy about which was best 2 EZs ago.

i STILL think:

Xbox: best graphics, games, least loading time
PS2: middle, its ok
GC: most dislike. games are too "babyish". dont like the controller set up.

my opinion :P

ScotchGuy

I remember that argument as well, you finally gave in after 3-4 days or so.

I was so close to starting that again, but I decided to refrain. I'm too tired to try and argue again, it takes a lot of effort.

The xbox sucks ass. period. granted this is just my opinion, but I think the old folks at microsfot didn't deliver what they promised.

onewecallgod

no i think i gave in after more like 2 days, i just got sick of it. i dont enjoy arguing either

but my opinion is probably not too great since ive played alot of xbox, almost no GC and a tiny bit of PS2

meh Halo is alright, but I don't appareciate ti unless its 8v8.
PS2 has some stuff, just not Melee calibur.

GameCube: Best console, hardly any load time, great graphics (just look at RE, Metriod Prime, PN03 etc) and really not all games are "babyish". I agree with the controller though, just ain't on par with the Nintendo 64 controller

PlayStation 2: Another good console and provides my games TV with DVD playback. The damn loading times and quite dated graphics is whats keeping this console from the top of my list. Also can play all my original PS1 games with enchanced graphics.

X-Box: Not my favorite console at all but has a few games that I like and weren't released for the Aus Dreamcast. Bad points are: the fans are damn loud, takes up the most space in my cabinet, controller hurts my palm and fingers.

I don't have a gamecube, XBox or PS2, but if i did splash out on
one I'd get a PS2. It has a lot of good games, the graphics are decent
and will only improve with time.

I would buy an XBOX for Jet Grind Future, and Shenmue 2 alone. the games on ps2 are alright, but nothing like JTF,or Shenmue.

The 3d zeldas are way to boring, which is why I still havent completed Wind Waker. The Gamecube does have Skys Of Acradia though, which is one of the most underrated games of all time.

I really cant decide, all the consoles are pretty shitty.

for some reason i do doubt that. if you had played plenty of xbox and really didnt like it then you wouldve found a better reason than, "yes, you don't need a memory card, but what good is that without any good games to keep on it..."

btw i dont own an xbox or GC or PS2

Get a Dreamcast, I picked up one and Shenmue II for less than it
would cost for Shenmue II alone on the XBox, plus you can download
and copy games for it piss easy.

Ok, Here are my two cents

There has been alot of debate about this, and the only problem I find it that people dont realize tha the 3 consoles are just DIFFERENT and different things suit different needs you know ;-) so, its up to each and every person to chosse-wise the perfect console to fints his own personals needs, or just do what I did.... get all 3 of em and try them :D and I can say im proud of buying all 3. but you know something eh? the GBA still OWNS them all

Satoshi

I think the XBOX looks the best, PS2 has the best game library, and GameCube has as many great games as the PS2*, but not as many games total.

*PS2 games I consider great: MGS2, GTA3, GTA:VC, GT3.
GameCube games I consider great: Zelda, Metriod, MGS, Melee

Will the I won't deny the pointlessness of this thread, it has so far
progressed in a farely normal manner with reasonbly intelligent
discussions.

Unless this thread gets out of hand, I don't really see a major reason
for closing it.

As for which system is the "best"... it kind of depends on what games
you like. I like RPGs, so the best system for me is the PS2 and worst
would be the XBox (although the Gamecube doesn't fare much better).

And FYI I currently own a PS2, GameCube and Dreamcast, although I
sadly have access to neither of them (I will be brining back my PS2 to
Ireland when I visit the Netherlands in November)...

If I had to make some general lists:

In terms of graphics (best to worst): XBox, GameCube, PS2
In terms of available games: PS2, XBox, GameCube

The Jedi
October 29th, 2003, 20:18
My opinion....

Gamecube:

I like the games. I like the controller. And, it's compact size for your conveniance. I've grown up on Nintendo all my life, so I guess I'll stick with them to the end.

Xbox:

Ok, I like the Xbox for two reasons: Halo and Xbox Live!. Xbox Live! is the best of the 3 online set-ups. I just... like it, I guess. Halo, however, is the best FPS I've ever played. It had a very decent plot and the AI characters actually acted like they had brains bigger than their eyeballs.

Playstation 2:

I'm not a fan of this system. It just doesn't hold the games that interest me.

Take it or leave it, it is my opinion.

Mourgos
October 29th, 2003, 22:13
X-box is plainly the best of all.Best hardware and graphics ,very good games ,and is the cheapest of all .

Gamecube is a trully decent console with some unique games that are true masterpieces (which in fact aren't childish at all) ,but the fact that it can't play DVD movies is really annoing and disappointing.

Ps2 is just a waste of words .It has the worst hardware and yet is the most expensive of all (at least in my country) and yes it has the most titles of all but most of them just suck ,and the good ones are usually on x-box as well. The only reason this thing survives competition is sony's good marketing and the fame of that PSX had .

And that is not just my opinion it's a FACT <_< .

Jay
October 29th, 2003, 22:19
...and is the cheapest of all .

Current Prices at Wall-Mart where I live:

GameCube - $99.99 USD

Play Station 2 - $179.00 USD

X-Box - $179.99 USD

I still bought the PS2 though :)

I would have to agree with Splize, the GC's games are way to childish. The X-Box has a few good game's, but im not gunna go out and buy a console for 3 or 4 games. Meanwhile, the PS2 has heaps of games i like and has a reasonable controller..
I have played all and would choose a PS2. But it is all up to personal choice...
If you like "kiddy games" and dont mind a small controller, then the GC is for you..
If you have a fair bit of money and want to spend it on a console with few games and a big controller then the X-box is yours..
But if you want to buy a console with a wide range, with atleast 60% of the games being good, including "kiddy" and adult games, plus many RPG's.. And you want a good size controller then go the PS2..

But as I said, it is all personal preferance.

ScotchGuy
November 14th, 2003, 07:07
I hate kiddy games and small controllers, but I have a GameCube and I like it. Nice criteria, idiot. I guess that makes you wrong.

Stop trying to create terrible criteria’s that will tell us which system best fits us based on two unimportant facts about each console. It just makes everyone angry.

Next, learn to spell and cut the amount of periods used in half.

... Silent Hill joo know.
my xbox's powersupply died after i had modded it. It infact does have the best hardware but in my opinion, only a handfull of decent games. these good games however will blow your mind with there amazing graphics and gameplay. the xbox is the most powerful system out and its alot of fun with its multiplayer games. It also has support for many lan games so you can play with up to 16 people at once localy! there are also free services to play online with like xboxconect.
so if i were to rate things out of 10
multiplayer options: 10
graphics: 10
amout of games: 4
controls: 7
online play: 8 (varys)
other factors: best controls for fps . amazing graphics . comes with two games and live service . easiest to mod . best to mod . few great games
:( .

the gamecube is a steal! it is the cheapest system and has quite a number of decent games. the controller is a bit dificult to get used to, but its not impossable. and about the only games that are "childish" are by the developers Nintendo themselves. I honestly think that just because a game doesnt have blood or explosions or zombies that eat your brains dosnt mean its not fun. this is probably your system of choice for the holidays. it lacks in online games, in fact it only has 1 online game.
mutiplayer options: 9
graphics: 9
amount of games: 8
controls: 6
online play: 1
other factors: for all ages. inexpensive. comes with a game. has a good library of games. little modification <_< .

The ps2 dosnt have amazing graphics but it gets the job done. it has the best developers and most games suporting it. it has (most of the time) free online games.
multiplayer options: 6
graphics: 7
amount of games: 10
controls: 9
online play: 10
other factors: huge library of games. alot of good games. free online service (mostly). for most ages. oldschool control scheme. not so good controls for fps dated graphics  . hard as crap to mod  .

The dreamcast is far from dead. anyone that wants to develope software for the dreamcast is free to do so. it does have a large library of games however you not going to find many of them any more. you can download the games for free though! lots of emulators for it. the dream cast is awsome!!!
multiplayer options: 9
graphics: 6 (comparable to ps2)
amount of games: 10 (developed software)
controls: 6
online play: none anymore
other factors: cheap. simple. no need to mod. just the coolest B)

Codeine
December 6th, 2003, 20:34

GameCube has a shortage on game releases, but most of them kick ass.

Playstation II has an overflow of games, and most are crappy. Though, once in a while, a good game does come out.

XboX is a worthless piece of dog feces. The only good games are Halo and Kotor, and Halo got old. It's a pathetic attempt at a New Generation Console, and Microsoft should kill themselves in the most painful possible way known to mankind.

GameCube- You all knew I'd say this is better... Melee.

PS2- Has turned me off of Playstations. The one I have is a piece of siht. Constant problems with running games, like Marve vs. Capcom II, and Capcom vs. SNKII, and nearly every other game. I can't stand getting a faulty system...

x-box- Only has Halo and KOTOR, Halo is fun in 8v8 stuff. But, nothing other than these two games.

W-General
December 10th, 2003, 13:27
Nothing appeals me on XBOX...all action games...I know we need a healthy dose of action, but XBOX is almost all action.

Gamecube has the same problem. Also a lot of them are anime licenses (Japanese). I have to say that some games are fine, and many appealing games have just came out...like Viewtiful Joe. But I'm terribly excited about Tales of Symphonia - finally, an RPG with a grappling story that's just at par with other RPG classics for Gamecube. Character design by Fujishima Kousuke - Ah my goddess, Sakura Wars, You're under arrest, etc.

PS2 - well...I only play RPG's so...heh - it gets its fair dose of all types of games so no need to elaborate.

I don't really care about any 4th-generation consoles...as long as there's RPG epics.

I think almost everyone has a PS2, and get it if you haven't. Then I'd recommend Gamecube - nothing exciting from M$ this time. The focus is not on the hardware and stuff, it's on the games that are available. XBOX has the best hardware but the games on it are nothing like the other two consoles - PS2 has variety, and Gamecube has unique-ness.

(If you wanna play lots of good dating simulations, get a Dreamcast - a PS2 also works - you can get Da Capo and Memories Off for PS2, for example.)

(On a side note, XBOX is the toughest - last week a guy in Maryland fired a pistol at XBOX, and the bullet rebounded off the case - the XBOX was merely scratched)

Regrettably same goes for the pc games but at least here you can play all time favourite games like Monkey Island series ,Discworld etc...

It's certainly out in the US. I only found out a little while back that it's
also out in Europe too -- just like the Dreamcast version. It may be
a little hard to find in shops, but it should be no problem to get from
online shops (since I have a PAL GameCube, I got mine from Amazon.co.uk).

Finally... a "real" RPG for the GC -- and a chance to play this game. I also
got a Dreamcast, but I got that one way to late -- so the only way to play
it on the Dreamcast would have been eBay or downloading slightly crippled "backups".
