Yes, looks that it's going to be the final name of Nintendo's next console previously known as Revolution:

In addition, it's revealed that a bay for an SD memory card will let players expand the internal flash memory. The system boasts 512 megabytes of internal flash memory, wireless controllers, two USB 2.0 ports and built-in Wi-Fi access. A worldwide network of Nintendo players "can gather to compete in a comfortable, inviting environment."
That's it, I want one...

Just found this out somewhere:

* I need a Wii now! I can't wait until this fall!
* "Mum, I finished my homework. Can I play with my Wii some more?"
* "Hey Mom, Roger's bringing his Wii over. We're going to connect his Wii to my Wii and then we'll play all night."
* "We are the Knights who say Wii!"
* Wii Willy Winky runs through town, upstairs and downstairs in his nightgown. Knocking on the window, crying through the lock "Are the children all in bed? It’s past eight o’clock."
* "Pass me that wemote contwol pwease?" -- Elmer Fudd redux
* "Do you have any Wii in stock?" asked the customer. "Or course we do," exclaimed the clerk, "Urine GameStop!"
* When you're a kid and you wanna go "whee" but you ain't got drugs yet. [NSFW, but funny as all heck.]

Must be the worst console name I've ever heard.
If it is cheap I may get one since it can also play my old GameCube games.

The console does matter.

But being a less powerful console to start with and a crappy name it will be hard for Nintendo to sell,if it doesn't sell,Nintendo doesn't make money,if they don't make money you get no games...so the name matters anyway.

Nintendo wants NEW gamers not just old farts that loved Nintendo because of NES,SNES (full Nintendo glory). ;)
And that name might get in the way...Every console sells good when launched, the question is how much does it sell later ?

Assuming it's even spoken the way people are interpreting it..

Why do they even calls these things consoles anymore?
They are anything but.. Just call them compact gaming machines or something more refreshing and honest

What? Coherent sentence structure please

The easy way:
PS3 will kick any other console's ass, because this time it really is a HOME ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM.
Sony's been bragging with this stuff with PSOne and PS2,but now it's reality.

Happy now Mr.Teacher...Sir ? :my_rambo:

I don't at all see the relevance this has to do with my opinion on why these machines are sold as game consoles. Sounds to me like you just have a chubby for a pile of circuits and want everyone else to feel the same

I still thinking the same thing about PS3 is a console as well. :p

I also think Sony mean to make PS3 a Home Entertainmet System, because it would be way cheaper than any Blu-Ray Disc player, and the BD vs HD-DVD war is as important as the next gent console battle IMHO. Not to mention the WiFi usage to make a it a "Media Center" (again Xb360 like) plus the connection with PSP: I'm sure it would be possible streaming video from the PS3 to the Sony handheld, plus some other features suggested on the official PSP roadmap (and the leaked firmware images - which may be wrong though)

2 vs 2 now :D

I think I may be a little late in this conversation, but oh well.

You must admit, Nintendo is absolutely brilliant. Not only have they gotten everyone to talk maniacally about the released name, but it's also a flexible name in a non-gaming sense as well.

Think about it.

It's simple, clean, and well presented, much like Apple. It represents the new fad in technology. Nintendo is trying to corner the non-gaming audience, so it works.

Although, I must admit, with the name Revolution their damn marketing plan would have written itself.

If you don't like it, just cover the name up with a piece of cardboard. I'm sure they won't mind.

Introducing... Wii.
As in "we."
While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd. So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything.

All this speaking about the Wii but it sounds pretty catastrophic to me if the graphics of Wii are that of the pictures screen shown in this topic.
If they are it will be a total disaster and has no chances of competing with the graphics of PS3,which i have seen some at GN (GAME NETWORK TV) and were absolutely supreme to anyother gaming machine or console call it what you want.

So Wii is outta my list. PS 3 just come on out , i can't wait.

The PSP has far better graphics than the DS, but which one is selling better worldwide. Exactly, the DS.
If you want to go for graphics, get a PS3 or 360. I don't care that much for graphics, so I'll buy a Wii. Everybody happy :)
