I'll skip right to the question...Why won't it work ?
This is not a game that needs .chd.I needed a BIOS file and found it,placed it in the roms folder.
I press Enter, mame checks the files, everything must be ok,the screen goes black, stays like that for a few seconds than goes back to the emu gui,no errors no nothing.
I know the sound isn't quite emulated, but I wanted to see the arcade version...I've played it on PSOne and PC,I wanted the original.
Even downloaded it from 2-3 different places.

What's wrong ? I have mame32 plus! 0.103u3,the game is listed as Working...I dunno what to do next.

According to this (http://www.mameworld.net/maws/romset/batmanfr), the driver status is preliminary. It should be playable, though. I can't check it now, but if you want, I'll do it soon ;)

With latest MAME 0.104u1 works pretty fine but sound it's not emulated. Anyway it's a STV game so it's still a preliminary driver as alco said.

Well, it had some video emulation problem though.

Of course, I told it's still WIP

So it doesn't work with a version below 0.104u1 ?
I hate to install a new mame all over again.Oh well...

Do you use ClrMame now, pbdizayn? I will describe my MAME update process:
I have MAME 1.04u1 complete. When the next one comes out, I check my current set with ClrMame. After that I check my backup folder and other arcade stuff for misses. Then I download my missings and rebuild. And of course I just extract the new MAME in my MAME folder (MAME32FX that is).
Once correctly set up, MAME is not that hard to keep up-to-date :)

Can I simply overwrite the old one (mame32 plus! 0.103u3 my fav ?)
I have no problem with keeping roms up to date, clrmame is pretty helpful.
It's just the new mame extracting,I'm just lazy.

Haha, I love it when people admit that! I can't say that I'm any better when it comes to some things :D

I haven't seen any documented changes on the STV driver from 0.103u5 to 0.104u1, so perhaps it would do the same if other, more general changes didn't affect it.

So I'll have to move my lazy ass and install the latest mame ;)

EDIT: I have mame plus! 0.104u1 and it still doesn't work :(
Same problem, screen goes black...and then back to the mame plus GUI.
WHY ? (In think Batman hates me...:D)

I'd try it again from scratch, and make sure the ROMs are correct, so make an audit won't hurt

No luck :(
Even downloaded it from three different sources, ran an audit,clrmame...
This is what I have:

Do I have to find an up-to-date stv bios ? They really get updated that fast ?

If you don't get a warning after loading the game ROMs, should be correct. Anyway try to check the STV bios, also perhaps changing the STV BIOS region helps.

OK,will do that.
I don't get any warning messages.

Here's the ST-V BIOS versions:

I'll try and download another ST-V bios if I can find.

EDIT: I think I'll give up,I don't have any options left.

I'd try to delete the nvram files, cfg and ini files related to this games, or better from a clean MAME install. I'm using default BIOS (Japan (epr19730)) and DRC M68000 CPU core, and not (unchecked) RDTSC Timing, if that helps. I'm sure if you might be luckier with other MAME, original or derivate versions

Maybe that,'cause I've tried everything except it.
If that doesn't help I guess I'll stick to the PSOne version.
