I got as dell laptop and i was wanting to put it on my tv but all i can find is

a 4 pin plug my laptop has a 7 pin can i just use a 4 pin s-video plugin ?

I guess you want to convert 7-pin S-video to 4-pin S-video. Perphaps you're looking for something like this (http://www.svideo.com/7pinxclaim.html)

i was reading that the 4 pin would work all i want to do is play my divix movies
and emulators on my tv with s-video to RCA :)

Of yours has more pins tha may mean your video adapter can support incoming video for recording. Read the manual and find out. A normal cord should work but sometimes a special cord with the extra pins is needed so the laptop detects a cord is really plugged in. Thats how it goes with my video card.
What type of graphics adapter is it?

I got a Dell Inspiron 5150 with a nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 64 MB Video card

I got a 4 pin cable at walmart and i pluged it in and nothing I even pressed

Fn and F8 at the same time F8 showes CRT/Lcd on the key is that what i got

to press to see it on my tv

I got it working but i do not see my icons all i see is my wallpaper on my desktop

i'm running 800X600 32 bit color is this what i need to run or something else thanx:)
