Please remember that GBA games are not meant to be played in high resolutions. It's normal for them to suck.

yea thats true but it worked befor....is there anythin at all i could do to try to make it better?

onewecallgod
August 25th, 2005, 08:38
it won't/shouldnt look better. just play it in its native resolution.

Use Direct3D or OpenGL output instead DirectDraw or GDI:
"Options" -> "Video" -> "Render Method"
then use some of available filters from these APIs:
"Options" -> "Video" -> "Render Method" -> "D3D" options for Direct3D, "GL" options for OpenGL

You might use DirectDraw render with the filters enabled too. I'd try everything until you find what you prefer:
"Options" -> "Filter"

I've found that if you use hq2x (Options>Filter>hq2x) the quality will improve alot.

Could you post a screenshot? That might help us help you.

Some games are just plain shit on the gba/VBA (ie Medal Of Honor Underground). And nothing can be done to improve them.

acsualy id be more then happy to give u a screen shot that would help u guys for sure and then u will know what im exactly talkin about cuz im probably not explaining it very well....if somone could tell me how to take screen shots that would be great as well....lol srry

You'll need to host your pic HERE (http://www.imageshack.us) and then put the link between IMG tags, like this:

Pic link here

Stiffmyster
August 29th, 2005, 21:33
okay this is how it is at x1 which is the size once i open it...http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/6637/screenshot0026hr.th.jpg (http://img15.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot0026hr.jpg)

Stiffmyster

and then when its x2 it looks like shit...http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/7646/screenshot0036dc.th.jpg (http://img95.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot0036dc.jpg)

Stiffmyster
August 29th, 2005, 21:36
and the diff is that when its on x1 like in the first pic the graphics are good and u can see everything but its to small to play on...then x2 is the one in the sec. pic and as u can see it blows...

Please don't TRIPLE post!, make a single post if you want to say multiple things.

It looks ok to me, it is normal if GBA games look pixelly when you play them at 2x or higher.

Please remember that GBA games are not meant to be played in high resolutions. It's normal for them to suck.

Stiffmyster
August 29th, 2005, 22:46
well yea thats true but not THAT pixaly i mean thats a serious bad one and i know cuz i had it befor...and it looked fine so i know its fixable i just dont know how....

Jale
August 30th, 2005, 00:32
I think I know what seems to be the problem. Check you are using DirectDraw as your rendering method and not Direct3D or OpenGL.

To do so, go to Options --> Video --> Render Method and check if DirectDraw is enabled.

Stiffmyster
August 30th, 2005, 01:29
okay when i try to use the direct3D the game wont come on i mean u can hear the music and everythin but the screen stays black...

Jale
August 30th, 2005, 01:40
But you tried with DirectDraw?

Stiffmyster
August 30th, 2005, 02:10
yea when i use directdraw it looks like shit...and i tryed direct3D and that just leaves a black screen but i can hear the game so it works just cant see anything....and i tryed the other ones and they didnt help either...

Jale

Seems like a video driver problem. Reinstall your video driver and try again. If you are running an on-board video device, I think the solution is buying a new video card.

or

It's a not-well configured video driver.

Stiffmyster
August 30th, 2005, 04:57
how do i go about reinstallin it?

hagbard
August 30th, 2005, 23:29
You need to know your video card manufacturer and model, if possible, on Windows Device Manager for example: Press <Win> + <Pause> -> "Hardware" tab -> "Device Manager". It should appear above all devices listed there.

If you can't find it there, try this:

1) Start -> Execute -> type "cmd" (without the "", the same for the next times), <Enter>

2) Type "debug" , <Enter>

3) "dc000:00" , <Enter>

4) "d" , <Enter>

5) Repeat 4) until you can see some scrambled text like this on the right column:

-dc000:00

As you can see I got a "GeForce 6600 GT" , it should work and tell your gfx card model.

Once you know that, go to the manufacturers official site, then download the appropiate drivers for you Operating System and gfx card. It should be easy as it's usually a step by step process.

I've found that if you use hq2x (Options>Filter>hq2x) the quality will improve alot.

it sharpens the look of the graphics. Nice

Stiffmyster
September 2nd, 2005, 19:51
would these bad grapgics have any better effects if i had a good graphic card?

hagbard
September 3rd, 2005, 12:48
If you have seen the D3D and OGL filters working and don't like it, no graphics card would make it better, unless someone add support for Pixel Shader effects.

Stiffmyster
September 5th, 2005, 04:53
o i think i know what the problem is then cuz i cant see D3D at all and neither the other one so i guess im gonna have to get out there and buy a graphic card....do u know how much those go around for...like a good desant one?

hagbard
September 5th, 2005, 14:02
VBA menu "Options" -> "Video" -> "Render method" -> then choose "Direct3D" (D3D) , "OpenGL" (OGL) , "DirectDraw" or "GDI"

Stiffmyster
September 7th, 2005, 23:58
no i dont mean that i dont see it its just when i click on D3D and try to open a game it plays but the VGBA screen stays black and i cant see shit but on directdraw it works and same thin happens with the openGL....so

hagbard
September 8th, 2005, 00:03
