I'm on the 3rd planet for this GBA game. When I press A, it says use official equipment. What do I do?

After you finish the level and save then hit reset and load the game again(NOT save state). You should be able to continue with the next planet.

I haven't tried that method yet. But, I see that people can download a crack patch for this game.
