mpeg 1 and 2

im converting my avi files but i dont no wat to convert them into mpeg1 or 2 can u tell me the differences
im burning them to a dvd does that make a diff

A DVD is under MPEG-2.

I think so. All I know is that MPEG-2 is used for DVDs and SVCDs and MPEG-1 is used for VCDs.
