I currently have MAME32 Plus 0.98u2 installed on my computer. I have a 2.4 P4, 1G of DDR 3200 memory, a Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB video card, Im running Windows XP SP2 and Im using a XBOX gamepad on my system. Here goes my list of problems and questions:

1) I select Use Direct3D under settings, but when I restart my computer or even sometimes switch between a game, the Direct3D setting gets unchecked. Anyone know why?

2) What settings, if any, should I have checked or unchecked to make games play better depending on my system specs.

3) I have the game Time Soldiers which used a roller ball wheel control in the arcades. Whats the best way I can get the game to move better with the 2 analog joysticks that are on my XBOX control? I cant seem to get the look around control set to work correctly. (EX: When I move my second analog stick to look left, he doesnt look left. :()

4) The trigger buttons on my XBOX control do not respond as fast as the regular buttons. Anyone know how to make them respond faster?

Thank in advance for any help. :)

1) Your "mame32.ini" or "MAME32ui.ini" ("ini" subfolder) should be messed up. Either delete them or make a fresh install of Mame32

2) Disable auto frameskip, enable triple buffering, disable both switch resolutions to fit & switch color dephts and enable vsynsc. You might play a bit with the D3D options filter & effect, it's mostly a matter of taste.

3) Go to the in game menu (press <Tab>), then try to map your left analog joystick to P1 left, right up & down as it's the joypad.

Then you have 2 choices: map the dial as your joystick vertical axes to "Dial Analog" and horizontal to "Dial increase Decrease". I don't like it, so I prefer the default setting with the dial mapped to joy1 vertical axes. It's a lot easier for me.

You might also change the analog sensivity on Mame in game menu at "Analog Controls". Play with the values to make it faster or slower controls response. That's the key to have it properly configured.

Last but not least you need to enable the dial mapping to your joystick on Mame menu "Def. game options" or "Game Options" (right click the game), go to the controller mapping and slect joystick on dial device. As you can see, it's possible to map the mouse though.

4) The trigger are analog controls but the Mame uses them as analog ones, so that's expected. I think the way it's trying to configure your joypad drivers on Windows: Start -> Control Panel -> Printers and other hardware -> Game devices
