Pokemon GSC Linking problem(VBA)

I have been trying very hard to clear up problems to play the pokemon game and trade pokemon with a friend of mine. So far we have manage to connect to each other using VBAlink.

However, when I attempt to trade pokemon with him(in the pokecentre), it will subbornly give me the response " Your friend is not ready." Even though we synchronized our button pressing.

He currently uses a Crystal version(English) rom and I use a Gold version(English) rom. Could anyone help me solve my problem or at least tell me whether the rom or emulator is at fault? Thanks

You need an older emulator to link these games.

Well, BGB it's an outstanding and updated GB/SGB/GBCm emulator, probably the best now. The link mode o TGB it'sd the best, btw.
