I'm a newbie to the site and was wondering..........
I just built a new PC:
-AMD Athlon 64 3000+
-1 GB Corsair Memory
-Diamond Radeon 9600XT graphics w/ 256 MB
-Integrated sound
-120 GB HDD
It does not matter which type of emulator I use (rockNES, ZSNES, SNES9X), everytime I try to load a ROM my system locks up.
Any ideas as to why?

The problem definately lies in your PC or Windows and not in any of the emus...

You can tell us your OS (9x, XP, etc), DirectX version, etc. Perhaps updating your system to latest DirectX, Graphic drivers, etc. helps a bit. :)

Running WindowsXP Home w/ SP2 (OEM from a .com) with DirectX 9.
I have tried using video drivers from Diamond install cd as well as downloading the newest Catalyst drivers from ati.com and either way, it does not work.
The only other thing I can think of is my resolution setting when running the emus. I use 1280x1024 full screen when playing roms, is that too much?

I don't think so, that screen res be a problem. How many bpp, btw?
Did you tried DirectX test? I mean: Start->Run->type "dxdiag" (without the ")<ENTER>
Here you have many tabs, just go through every test and tell us what happens.
