Hey everyone!!

im relativley new at the whole emulators and roms, but im trying to get Kawaks to work! i have the newest version 1.54, and i have the bois in the same place as my roms, but yet it comes up with 'couldnt find 000-lo.lo (e09e253c) for game, ERROR' and i have no idea what i am supposed to do, i have spent hours on hours trying to find out whats wrong, i have read the FAQ, downloaded different emulators! but i still cant play my Neo-Geo games! PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!

thanks!! :D

It looks yor neogeo.zip bios file is missing one file:
000-lo.lo , 65.536 bytes, e09e253c CRC32

Or there's a different one, possibly an older version. I would look for an updated neogeo.zip file.

Check your PM by the way ;)

ok well i have done excatly what you told me to do and it still says it cant find the 000-lo.lo file? but the file is in the same folder as the rom?? could it be the rom? do i have to leave them zipped? thank you soo much for all the help!

That 000-lo.lo it's a ROM bios file inside the neogeo.zip. Open the zip and you'll see that file inside. If it's not inside, then you know the problem.

btw, you can left your Roms zipped, there's no problem

The neogeo.zip should be (in your case) in the same folder as you have your zipped roms. You have probably to set up your "Roms 1:" where you placed whole Roms (zipped). If already did that, I would delete the winkawaks.ini and try again, set your roms folder, etc. Hope it helps :)

oh my god, im so sorry, im such a dumb ass!

it still isnt working, i have re-installed Kawaks 1.54, then put my mslug file, along with the neogeo.zip file in the folder, neogeo in the roms folderthat comes with kawaks. all files are still zipped, then i go to configure the paths, the go load rom, scan for new, then load it up, and it still says the same problem?

No problem, we're going to try from the beginning. :)
To play Metal Slug you need an emulator like kawaks, for example. Then the roms & bios:

mslug.zip -> A zip file with mslug Roms inside, the Roms should be:

Rom name -> CRC32
---------- ---------
201-c1.bin -> 72813676
201-c2.bin -> 96f62574
201-c3.bin -> 5121456a
201-c4.bin -> f4ad59a3
201-m1.bin -> c28b3253
201-p1.bin -> 08d8daa5
201-s1.bin -> 2f55958d
201-v1.bin -> 23d22ed1
201-v2.bin -> 472cf9db

neogeo.zip -> A zip file with NeoGeo Bios roms inside:

Rom name CRC32
---------- -------
sfix.sfx -> 354029fc
sp-s2.sp1 -> 9036d879
sp-s.sp1 -> c7f2fa45
usa_2slt.bin -> e72943de
sp-e.sp1 -> 2723a5b5
asia-s3.rom -> 91b64be3
vs-bios.rom -> f0e8f27d
sp-j2.rom -> acede59c
sp1.jipan.1024 -> 9fb0abe4
sm1.sm1 -> 97cf998b
000-lo.lo -> e09e253c

Once you are sure you got this, place mslug.zip & neogeo.zip in the same folder, whatever you like. Set that folder on your Roms path. Scan for roms, select available roms and look if Metal Slug it's there, as should be. Load roms and hopefully you'll be playing Metal Slug.

If not, in the menu "Tools" in Kawaks, select "Audit Romsets". It might took a while, when finished, open "WinKawaks Audit.txt" , and look for (search option in notepad, for example) mslug. Exactlly this word, ignore mslug2 for example. If some lines appears, copy & paste them here and I'll see what you can do. Good luck :)

kylesinclair5
April 9th, 2005, 03:48
ok well i got all of that but..... :D in the mslug zip file they are -
mslug_c1.rom
mslug_c2.rom
mslug_c3.rom
mslug_c4.rom
mslug_m1.rom
mslug_p1.rom
mslug_s1.rom
mslug_v1.rom
mslug_v2.rom

should i be renaming them to the files you have typed in?

hagbard
April 9th, 2005, 10:55
Well, it's not necessary, but if you might do it, it would be better ;)
The most important are the CRC32 of each rom matches as I post down here:

ROM name CRC32 OLD name
---------- -------- ------------
201-c1.bin -> 72813676 -> mslug_c1.rom
201-c2.bin -> 96f62574 -> mslug_c2.rom
201-c3.bin -> 5121456a -> mslug_c3.rom
201-c4.bin -> f4ad59a3 -> mslug_c4.rom
201-m1.bin -> c28b3253 -> mslug_m1.rom
201-p1.bin -> 08d8daa5 -> mslug_p1.rom
201-s1.bin -> 2f55958d -> mslug_s1.rom
201-v1.bin -> 23d22ed1 -> mslug_v1.rom
201-v2.bin -> 472cf9db -> mslug_v2.rom

Btw, can you make an audit and post here only the lines begining with "mslug"? It would be very useful, trust me.

On the other hand, did you tried another emulators? Just by the case, I think the problem it's somehow emu related, so I'd stick with Nebula & Mame32, for example :)

kylesinclair5
April 10th, 2005, 07:53
Hey,
i renamed them all and same message! but i did an audit and this is what its come up with -

mslug - 000-lo.lo 65536 e09e253c ERROR: not found, game will not run
mslug - sp-s2.sp1 131072 9036d879 ERROR: not found, game will not run
mslug - sfix.sfx 131072 354029fc ERROR: not found, game will not run
mslug - 201-c1.bin 4194304 72813676 WARNING: wrong CRC32 (d00bd152), may cause emulation bugs
mslug - 201-c2.bin 4194304 96f62574 WARNING: wrong CRC32 (ddff1dea), may cause emulation bugs
mslug - 201-c3.bin 4194304 5121456a WARNING: wrong CRC32 (d3d5f9e5), may cause emulation bugs
mslug - 201-c4.bin 4194304 f4ad59a3 WARNING: wrong CRC32 (5ac1d497), may cause emulation bugs

im thinking i will try Neubla, so is the set up the same set up as i have been trying to do with Kawaks?

hagbard
April 10th, 2005, 10:50
From this audit I can make two conclusions:

mslug - 000-lo.lo 65536 e09e253c ERROR: not found, game will not run
mslug - sp-s2.sp1 131072 9036d879 ERROR: not found, game will not run
mslug - sfix.sfx 131072 354029fc ERROR: not found, game will not run

1 - You're missing that marked three neogeo bios files, should be inside neogeo.zip. At least aren't in your rom path. I think you downloaded a good neogeo.zip, the question it's if it is in your path, or if another one is messing the whole thing.
Might you have some bios files on mslug.zip?

mslug - 201-c1.bin 4194304 72813676 WARNING: wrong CRC32 (d00bd152), may cause emulation bugs
mslug - 201-c2.bin 4194304 96f62574 WARNING: wrong CRC32 (ddff1dea), may cause emulation bugs
mslug - 201-c3.bin 4194304 5121456a WARNING: wrong CRC32 (d3d5f9e5), may cause emulation bugs
mslug - 201-c4.bin 4194304 f4ad59a3 WARNING: wrong CRC32 (5ac1d497), may cause emulation bugs

2 - Your C roms (graphics) are incorrect, baecause the CRC32 doesn't match. The best you can do it's download a working mslug set again. Do you remember my PM? ;)

Nebula uses the same roms, so you might try if you want :)

kylesinclair5
April 11th, 2005, 08:39
i have no idea what your PM is? i think i will try using Nebula, and just download everything new. the BIOS and MSLUG, and the newer NEBULA. so i will just do the same as you typed? put the BIOS in the same folder as the roms, and just run nebula as is?

hagbard
April 11th, 2005, 10:37
Ok, if you do so, you shouldn't have any problem even with Kawaks. Good luck :)

I still prefer having Nebula 2.23 and edit the romdata if I were you. :)

hagbard
April 11th, 2005, 13:53
Why not Nebula 2.24? :rolleyes:
Anyway, I ever prefer the most up to date emulator (whenever it works better too) specially 'cause will be using a better, verified rom set ;)

The game will be locked up if Nebula can't recognized the 'actual' data romset. :cool:

hagbard
April 11th, 2005, 14:10
But this also happen with Nebula 2.23, isn't it?
I think it was 2.18 the one "unlocked"

montpics
April 11th, 2005, 14:15
No, Nebula 2.23 was mistakenly released to public by the creator himself as he forgot to add the protection on it. Later that, he immediately swapped it into Nebula 2.23a onwards.

So, many people play the 'forbidden' games using Nebula 2.23. :cool:

hagbard
April 11th, 2005, 14:20
OK, I remember now (I think 2.18 was something like that). I wonder I still have 2.23 :D
Thanks for the correction, monty :)

Hey mate, me again.....

ok i downloaded all the fiels again on a different drive, and followed all your instructions, except when i get to scan for new roms, it dosent find any roms, then i just click on mslug and it comes up with this error -

Couldn't find 201-v1.bin (23d22ed1) for game, ERROR

yet i have put the rom, and the bios in the same folder and changed the rom paths to that specific folder? what am i doing wrong?!

montpics
April 12th, 2005, 12:34
What emulator are you using? If you are using Nebula 2.23, then you may want to edit the romset in romdata file using Notepad. :)

kylesinclair5
April 12th, 2005, 13:18
how do i edit the romset? im trying to use Kawaks, but that hasnt been working at all, so i am trying any emulator! but none of them work for me! i have tried Neo-RageX, and Nebula, but when i start using nebula, it works, but that stuffs up, all the sound is bad, then half the graphics dont load?

hagbard
April 12th, 2005, 15:01
Make sure the neogeo bios zip it's named "neogeo.zip" (not "neo-geo.zip").
Does Kawaks/Nebula still tell you "some rom is missing" like messages? Please confirm it :) And don't try to unzip your roms, it doesn't work with Kawaks

On the other hand, which DirectX version are you using? (Start->Run->type "dxdiag") You might need to update (www.microsoft.com/directx)
Also, it might be necessary to download & install your latest graphics card drivers.

Btw, I remember kawaks needs some dll's if aren't in your system. You can find them here (http://kawaks.retrogames.com/downloads.htm), "Downloads" section. Don't try this until we know which windows are you using ;)

alcoatjez
April 12th, 2005, 15:53
Why not just take all the logical steps:
1. Download and install ClrMAME (http://www.clrmame.com)
2. Check your romset with ClrMAME
3. If the games you want to play are reporting that they are incomplete, download new roms and use ClrMAME's rebuild function to get a complete set

I know that ClrMAME can be difficult to learn. I also learned how to use it, and it is really worth it!

montpics
April 12th, 2005, 16:01
Or perhaps RomCenter (http://www.romcenter.com/) for beginners. :)

hagbard
April 12th, 2005, 18:31
Or just the audit function form each emulator ;)

montpics
April 14th, 2005, 10:03
Well, here is a new problem from kylesinclair5 through PM. ;)

Ah its all good, i got it working finally, but i have one more Question! when i run CPS1 & 2 Games, the sound is pretty bad, and some of the games lag abit, would that be a problem with the rom or is it my graphics card/sound card?
So, people any ideas?

hagbard
April 14th, 2005, 10:25
Not a roms problem but an emulator & PC indeed.

Please tell us about your PC specs, CPU frequency (speed), RAM and Operating System.
Anyway you might try to set the sound at 44100 Hz in the CPS-1/2 sound menu, also 16 bit. Also, open the kawaks ini and look for the next line:

; sound segments. if sound gets choppy, try fiddling with those (SoundSegLag < SoundSegs)
SoundSegs=6
SoundSegLag=5

Play a bit changing the values +/-3 and listen what happens.

You can make it faster as the FAQ reads:

================================================== ==========================
IT'S SO SLOW HERE :/
HOW TO HAVE IT GO FASTER ?
================================================== ==========================
First, you should try to modify the UseVRAM in the INI. If it's 0, set it
to 1, and if it's 1, set it to 0. It can have a HUGE effect.

Now, if it's still too slow, try using a faster blitter.
Alternate scanlines is a lot faster than regular scanlines, and a LOT faster
than 50% scanlines. Normal blitter may be a little faster than Alternate
scanlines depending on the PC/gfx card.

Don't enable Interframe blending, it slows things down a great deal.

Then, make sure you set DisableJoystick to 1 in the INI if you don't use a
joystick/pad, but you have one.

Then, set a lower sound frequency. Search for SoundFrequency in the INI
and set it to 22050 or even 11025.

Then, you may want to disable effects like BgHi for CPS1 or Masking for CPS2.
The gfx issues they fix may not be worth the slowdown for you.

Then, you might want to set TaskPriority to 128 in the INI, though I'm not
sure this has a big impact.

After all that, you may try and play Kawaks in fullscreen rather than
windowed mode. It should be a tad faster (and it's perfectly normal).

I think it's pretty self explanatory, don't you? :)

It doesn't allowed to tell where to find that in this forum, besides, you resurrected an old thread. My advice, use google.

Yeah, kawas do not run sf3 so why bother about it. Use other emulators. They are much better than kawas. :)
