View Full Version : playing from an ISO rather than the disk?

Would a game play faster from an ISO than the disk? cos I've been playing my old PS games on the PC recently, and every time it pauses or stalls it always seems to be for the disk drive to spin and catch up. So if I took the time to rip my games as ISOs would they run smoother without having to load from the disk the whole time?

cheers!

Yes, the amount of time to load will be less.

Yeah, it would be more faster, but you have to look out, because there are games that wouldn't run (or run fine) because they're on ISO, like my Mission: Impossible. :)

well, I tried making an Image of Warcraft II, but I couldn't get it to work...

I was using Alcohol 120%, and it would only convert to MDS for start. On their site it says this:

"But ISO format, only for those disc's that contain 1 data track(mode1 or mode2form1)."

So if it won't let me rip a game into an ISO, what will? Should ePSXe run MDS files? Also, once you've mounted the file to a virtual drive, can you just play the file from its location on your PC, or is there a way I can't find to play it FROM the virtual drive?

alas, so lost!

cheers folks!

CloneCD... I'm not sure, but I think it only make CCD format... Nero I'm not sure too, but I think it does, but it wont be a perfect 1:1 copy... Alcohol in that point is the best. Alcohol only make MDS files, but it can make a virtual CD using the image and configuring the ePSXe CD-ROM plugin, you can use its virtual drive to run games.

The same way you can play your copy of Warcraft II from the MDS.

Hope it helps.

Or use ISOProducer as an alternative software. ;)
