Zelda Majora's Mask controler issue in menu

the game works perfect exepte for when im in the menu section where i can go left and right but cant choose any items... i need to give the moon tears to the plant so i can proceed in my quest !!! can anyone help please !!??? :) Thanks

you use L or Z to turn the page (I think) and d-pad or joystick to move to the items. Then use the yellow buttons to select it. You can equip left down and up for your items. Chances are you didn't map the yellow buttons.
