Hi all,

I'm looking to invest a little time and money in rigging a budget emulation setup for when I've got friends and family visiting. I'd love some feedback on this from you more experienced members. My goal is to emulate SNES, N64, and GC (low priority) titles for 2 & 4-player gaming.

Computer
OS: OS X, El Capitan
Processor: 2.5GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 10 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
Display will be my flatscreen TV.

Important Titles (in case of know emulation/multiplayer issues)
SNES: Mario Kart, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Killer Instinct
N64: Smash Bros, Mario Party, Pokemon Stadium, Mario Kart
GC: Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Party

My running plan is to purchase 4, used, Nintendo-brand GC controllers as well as a USB hub. By my understanding, that should enable me to map keys for each system and simultaneously play with 2 and 4 players (that's key).

Am I missing anything or is this airtight?

Thank you!

If you are going to emulate SNES, N64, and GC (assuming multiple usb adapters), consider 4-play.

This would require buying the original controllers. Granted it is an overkill for you but still cheaper then buying each adapter/controller + shipping (if you so desire at some point). And selling the dongles you don't need will be extremely easy. It works great on a MAC and with openemu.

I own the 4-Play and can attest to it's usefulness.

Update: I had to work out some kinks (mostly related to emulating on a mac rather than a PC), but I can now reliably run games in multiplayer from all three systems.

-I opted for the Mayflash Gamecube adapter as it was inexpensive and accommodates original hardware: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE
-Visit this link if you're having issues with only one controller showing up in Dolphin when using the Mayflash Gamecube adapter in Mac OS X: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=How_to_use_the_Official_GameCube_C ontroller_Adapter_for_Wii_U_in_Dolphin#OS_X
-The Mayflash adapter has some issues with OpenEmu recognizing controllers. Be prepared to troubleshoot if that's what you want to use. Rather than dealing with the problem right now, I'm just using Snes9X, Project 64, and Dolphin side by side.
