I've decided to try to make a MAME arcade cabinet, and I'd like some help figuring out which parts to get and where to get them from. I'm also planning on making the cabinet a Halloween costume for the upcoming holiday, so it doesn't need to be too complicated. I want to pay as little money as possible when making it as well.
My computer is an HP laptop running Windows 8.1 with 3 USB ports. I want to design the cabinet so that the laptop is removable. I don't plan on playing fighting games, so I think two buttons per player will do. I also own an Xbox 360 controller and USB adapter, so I could use that as second player control.
Please help me decide which parts I should use to make my cabinet, and if possible, please provide links to where I could buy them.
Thank you very much!

Few options.

All usb:

From here

Or arcade parts from http://www.focusattack.com/
They are top notch.

Also you could get the necessary adapters like you suggested.
