Games Tested(PCSX2)

Video Settings Used:

Resolution : 4x Native
AA : FXAA
Window size : 1440x900

Black

Performance Notes

Black runs at about 40-60 fps without speedhacks.

It needs a hefty cpu to be run at full speed , probably a quad core haswell overclocked part.

Its playable if you configure the audio plugin not to slow down the sound when the framerate drops(Basicly changing the SPU 2 config to async mix)

With speedhacks and mtvu it runs at 60 fps which is impressive.

Crash Bandicot

Performance Notes
Crash bandicot runs at 60 fps without any speedhacks.

This one was easier to run , it only lagged a bit on the death animation going down to 45 fps .

Otherwise the game runs at locked 60 , apparently this game is cpu intensive so i tested it.

Zone of enders

Performance Notes

This is one of the most demanding games to be run on pcxs2

It ranged from 40-60 fps without speedhacks and only MTVU toggled, i consider it playable if you fix the sound issues that occur when the game slowsdown.

Conclusion

Overall from my quick-ish fist impressions i would say its a pretty decent cpu for pcxs2 , sure the pentium g3258 is better value but with AAA devs killing support for non hyperthreaded dual cores cpus in games this is a good option if you are looking for a cheap emulation/gaming cpu that is a bit more future proof than the pentium.

You also save money on aftermarket cooler and you can buy a 40 dollars motherboard that it wont really matter.

I wasn't expecting this performance from a dual core i3 , but its pretty darn fast.

interesting stuff so far! How many chips do you think you'll test?

I might test the 8320 to see how the AMD side performs when i can get my hands in one.

I started this mainly because there is no information of how the i3 performs online in emulators , just a bunch of naysayers in pcxs2 forums saying it wonf suffice because its a dual core.

And i was surprised by its performance.
