Not quite :)

Messenger Plus!(http://www.msgplus.net) contains an optional adware system to help pay for the software development. The program was detected as a "threat" correctly.

But Messenger Plus! is not a Microsoft product so what does microsoft have to do with this???

Btw, you can select not to install the adware by just checking a tiny option during installation. Most people however just hit the "Next" button ;)

They are not tricking you or anything, they give
you an option to install the adware or not.

It seems lately everything has an adware somewhere in the data, even anti-spyware programs can have there own spyware!!!
