need help with ps1 emulation

hey iam very new to ps1 emulation and dont understand how it works. Do i need to have the actual game or do you download the game on your computer and play it through the emulator?

Both of them :)

You can play with the actual PlayStation disc and/or download it from the Internet. By the way, to make it work, you'll need the BIOS.
