Hello, All!
I have released VGB-Android 3.6.1, the new version of GameBoy Classic, GameBoy Color, and Super GameBoy emulator for Android devices:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
As a temporary promotion, I am lowering the VGB-Android price to $2.49 or 1.99 euros. Unfortunately, at this price VGB brings home less than what it costs me to support users, so I will not be able to keep this price forever. So, get VGB while it's cheap :)
Here is the list of new features and fixes in this version:
* The action bar can now be toggled with a vertical fling gesture.
* Added screenshots, autosaved state, and two more slots to the Freeze/Restore.
* Cheatopedia now remembers the last open entry and recognizes the current game.
* Made Cheat Editor save cheats reliably.
* Optimized screen updates sync, for better framerates.
* Now pausing gameplay immediately when opening Android menu.
* Cleaned up handling of Android physical keys.
* Fixed cut-off landscape display on Nexus7 and other tablets.
* Fixed HBlank DMA transfer (Pokemon Crystal).
* Fixed initial LCDCONT state in (Shadowgate Classic).

With the VGB 3.6.6 release today, I am starting to introduce the automatic frame skipping feature:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
This feature can be enabled under the "Frames to Draw" option in the Settings. It makes VGB draw as many frames as your hardware allows, so the game play becomes very smooth on the faster hardware, while retaining speed on the slower hardware.
Having said that, the automatic frame skipping may not be perfect yet. I hope the existing VGB-Android users will provide feedback and help me debug it to perfection.
FULL CHANGE LIST:
* Added automatic frame skip control (under "Frames to Draw" option).
* Made display updates even faster by skipping unchanged areas.
* Made directional joypad easier to control.
* Fixed tactile feedback feature.
* Now you can enable multiple cheats at once.

Finishing this week with the VGB-Android 3.6.7 release:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fms.vgb
The main addition is the ability to upload your gameplay state to a server and download states uploaded by other users. Please note that a state is your position inside a game, not the actual game.
I have also added the resizable virtual joystick, removed the thin garbage lines that appeared on some devices in the accelerated video mode, and made a few fixes to the way VGB applies cheat codes to a patched game (i.e. when .ips file present).
ALL CHANGES:
* Added State Exchange feature letting users exchange their gameplay states.
* Made virtual controls resizable via "Virtual Joystick Size" option.
* Removed garbage at screen edges in accelerated OpenGLES mode.
* Minor fix for cheats/patch interaction.

ALL CHANGES:
* Added GameLink emulation letting users play with each other over the network.
* Now showing the "NEW" label only for files that have recently changed.

Starting with this version, VGB will output pictures printed with GameBoy Pocket Printer to an .HTML file with the same name as your original ROM file. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
The new version fixes timings on a few common Z80 instructions, which should hopefully stop random slowdowns during emulation. Also, if you are using a Bluetooth joystick or keyboard, the new VGB will automatically hide the on-screen controls. Touch the screen to make them reappear, or you can disable this feature completely in the Settings. Finally, I have introduced some assembler optimizations to the "Soften Video" mode, previously added to my other emulators.
ALL CHANGES:
* Fixed "JR offset" and "JR Z,offset" instruction timings.
* Added option to hide virtual gamepad when using the real one (enabled by default).

Hello, All!
I have just released VGB-Android 3.8, with the Replay feature, letting you record your gameplay and then "go back in time" replaying the recorded gameplay:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
In order to start recording, select "Record" from the menu or click on the "target" icon in the action bar. The diamond sign will indicate the ongoing recording. To replay, select "Replay" from the menu or click on the "timer" icon in the action bar. The triangle sign will indicate the ongoing replay. You can terminate replay at any moment by pressing a gamepad button.
As the options menu was becoming crowded, I had to rearrange it. The Freeze/Restore functionality is now accessible via a single menu option called "States", which also lets you access online State Exchange. Cheatopedia and Advanced items got their own submenus.
Finally, I added more caching to the File Selector, making it smoother. File Selector now only shows progress dialog when processing large folders.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added Record/Replay feature letting you go back in time.
* Now only showing File Selector progress dialog for large folders.
* Optimized File Selector labels and screenshots for smoother scrolling.
* Merged Freeze/Restore into single States dialog.

Hello, All!
I have released a new version of VGB-Android, my GameBoy Color and GameBoy Classic emulator. This week's VGB-Android 3.8.8 release is here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
Starting with this release, you can report non-working Cheatopedia cheats by holding them in the Cheatopedia and then selecting "Report Non-Working Cheat" from the context menu. Use the same trick to report non-working games in the File Selector.
To avoid accidentally quitting VGB when your finger slips and presses the BACK key, VGB now requires you to double-click on the BACK key to exit. If you do not like this feature, disable it in the Settings.
Finally, you can now paste multi-line cheat codes into the Cheat Editor instead of painfully entering them line by line.
ALL CHANGES:
* Now exiting emulation when user presses BACK twice (not once as before).
* Uncheck "Press BACK Twice to Quit" setting to restore original behavior.
* Added "Completely Delete File" to the File Selector context menu.
* Added "Report Non-Working File" to the File Selector context menu.
* Added "Report Non-Working Cheat" to the Cheatopedia context menu.
* Added multiline cheat entry to the Cheat Editor.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgba

If you are experiencing lag or jittery video with these options enabled, please, contact me immediately.
People with iPega gamepads will be happy to know that their gamepads should now fully work in VGB, including the directional pad. There have been several other, smaller changes. See the complete change list below.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added support for directional pad on iPega gamepads.
* Switched to hardware accelerated video by default, for fast video.
* Switched to automatic frame skipping by default, for smooth video.

I am starting this week with VGB-Android 3.9.7, a new release of my GameBoy Color, GameBoy Classic, and Super GameBoy emulator:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
Beginning with this version, VGB runs on GoogleTV devices upgraded to Android 4.x (Jelly Bean), such as LG G2/G3 TVs. Yes, it runs on a 55" screen, making for a really big GameBoy. You can control VGB with your remote controller, or plug a USB gamepad into the TV.
I have also switched VGB to the OpenSLES native sound API, to minimize the sound latency and improve overall performance. On Android devices, where OpenSLES is not available (Android 2.2), VGB will use the legacy Java API.
People who do not like too much clutter on their screens, will like the new "contour" virtual joystick skin. To enable it, use the "Virtual Joystick Shape" in the Settings.
Finally, I have taken steps to avoid crashes that sometimes happened after you ran a few games and exited back into the File Selector. The crashes were due to Android running out of bitmap memory. They should not happen now, or at least happen much less frequently. There have been several other important bug fixes as well. See below for the complete list.
ALL CHANGES:
* VGB now runs on Google TVs updated to Android 4.x (LG G2/G3).
* Now defaulting to OpenSLES native audio, for minimal latency.
* Now recycling bitmaps to prevent Bitmap.nativeCreate() crashes.
* Added new "contour" joystick shape (see "Virtual Joystick Shape" setting).
* Added "Audio Rate" setting, for controlling sampling rate.
* Added "Native Audio" setting, for disabling OpenSLES, if needed.
* No longer requiring touchscreen support from the Android device.
* Fixed inconsistencies in replay mechanism.
* Fixed stutter during NetPlay connection process.
* Fixed audio initialization always setting 100ms latency.
* Fixed audio pause/resume when activity pauses or resumes.
* Refactored audio control between Java and native code.

Hello, All!
Starting this week with a VGB-Android 3.9.11 release. VGB-Android is my GameBoy Color, GameBoy Classic, and Super GameBoy emulator:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
The new release adds a bunch of hardware emulation options, previously only available from the rather unfriendly Advanced Settings menu. Among other things, you can now tell VGB to use "washed out" colors, just like the original GameBoy Color did with its reflective color LCD. I have also changed the action bar style to match the toolbar and added a proper icon to the parent directory entries in the File Selector.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added "Hardware Options" screen to the Settings.
* Added new-styled action bar, consistent with toolbar.
* Added Pocket Printer emulation option to the Settings.
* Added "Delay Line Interrupts" option to the Settings.
* Added "Check Cartridge CRC" option to the Settings.
* Added "Use Washed-Out Colors" option to the Settings.

Hello, All!
This week starts with the VGB-Android 3.9.15 release, a new version of my GameBoy Color, GameBoy Classic, and Super GameBoy emulator:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fms.vgb
I have been fixing hardware emulation bugs over the last couple of weeks. As result, Aerostar, Alfred Chicken, Alien Olympics, Robocop 2, Shadowgate, and many other games work now. I have also added the DI+HALT bug emulation, where CPU will execute the instruction following HALT twice, if interrupts are disabled. Had to make this emulation optional though, as some games (such as Robocop) do not work with it. Finally, the Settings dialog is now tabbed, with the separate tab for hardware emulation options, and some other options (such as fast-fowarding and display orientation) have changed their places. See below for the complete change list.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added optional DI+HALT CPU bug emulation.
* Now enabling LCD controller on startup (fixed Aerostar, Alfred Chicken, and many others).
* Now disabling interrupts on startup (fixed Robocop 2, Shadowgate, and many others).
* Now clearing scratch RAM after reset.
* Settings are now tabbed, for easier navigation.
* Added Emulation section to the Settings.
* Moved some options from Input and Video sections to General.

Hello, All!
This week's VGB-Android 3.9.16 release is on Google Play now:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
VGB emulates GameBoy Color, GameBoy Classic, and Super GameBoy video game consoles. The new release makes sure you cannot press two opposing arrow keys at once (some games absolutely hate that) and adds the "Hide Title Bar" option for those users who cannot stand the action bar. Note that once you hide the title bar, you can get it back by sliding your finger down the screen.
People with Moga gamepads should be able to remap Moga buttons via "Assign Keys" option, something many of you requested. Also, gamepads can now be used to navigate the tabbed Settings dialog. See the complete list of changes below.
ALL CHANGES:
* Now locking out opposite arrow keys.
* Added "Hide Title Bar" option to hide status/action bar on startup.
* Added ability to assign Moga buttons via "Assign Keys".
* Fixed battery drain when VGB is running in background.
* Added arrow keys navigation to the tabbed Settings.
* Added Moga controller navigation to the tabbed Settings.
* Added Desert Strike to the Cheatopedia.

Hello, All!
VGB-Android, my GameBoy Color, GameBoy Classic, and Super GameBoy emulator, has been upgraded to version 4.0 today:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
The major version number change is due to MBC7 and tilt sensor emulation, and the drastic changes to interrupt handling. Kirby's Tilt'n'Tumble game will now work with your phone's accelerometer. Additionally, many games that failed due to interrupt handling, such as Final Fantasy Legend, should work now.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added MBC7 mapper emulation (Kirby's Tilt'n'Tumble works).
* Reversed IRQ priorities, with VBlank IRQ getting top priority.
* Checking IRQs when ISWITCH/IFLAGS modified (Final Fantasy Legend runs).
* Added 93cXX serial EEPROM emulation.
* Added tilt sensor emulation.
* Optimized C code performance.

Hello, All!
After receiving reports of VGB-Android 4.1 not being able to restore saved states, I have found a bug, accidentally introduced when adding MMM01 mapper support, that affected state restore process. I have just released the bugfixed VGB-Android 4.1.1:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fms.vgb
If you are a VGB user, please, upgrade as soon as the new version becomes available from the Google Play Store. If you are still unable to restore from a previously saved state, reset emulation by selecting "Reset" from the menu. Sorry for the trouble: these things happen now and then.

Hello, All!
Starting this week with the VGB-Android 4.2.1 release:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
The new VGB-Android fixes line-match interrupts (so that Street Fighter 2 and a few other games run with no glitches), makes scanline effects work properly when running Super GameBoy games, and adds support for external SD cards on Kitkat. There is also a bunch of other fixes, covered below. Finally, I removed the MENU button off the screen, to avoid accidentally entering the Advanced Settings menu. These settings can still be accessed via "Advanced | Settings" Android menu.

* Fixed scanline effects in Super GameBoy mode.
* Made a work-around for external SD card use on KitKat!

* Removed the MENU button from the screen (use "Advanced | Settings" instead).
* Fixed sections navigation in the File Selector.
* Fixed a crash in Cheatopedia, when displaying the list.
* Fixed rare crashes in gesture detection.
* Fixed recognition of multiple file extensions.

Hello, All!
I have just pushed VGB-Android 4.2.3, a new version of my GameBoy emulator, to the Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
In this release, I have introduced the Palette Editor that makes it easier to modify game colors. Select "Edit Palette" from the menu to see how it works and send me your suggestions on how to improve it. I also made several rather important fixes, including NetPlay connection fix and the virtual directional pad fix. Finally, I rectified the situation where restoring the gameplay state reset the GameBoy model: some users complained about VGB forcing them into Super GameBoy mode every time they returned to the game.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added Palette Editor, letting you adjust colors at runtime.
* Fixed GameBoy model reset when restoring state.
* Fixed network play, previously broken for some users.
* Fixed directional pad activated by touching outside.
* Added "Edit Palette" option to emulator and File Selector menus.
* Added .PAL file display to File Selector and Gallery.
* Added tilt joystick sensitivity setting.

Hello, All!
With VGB-Android 4.2.5, published today, I have added a decorative background and started improving the DropBox integration:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
Both features were requested by the users. I have made a subtle portrait mode background that looks like a real GameBoy Color. Hope you like it. If you don't, make your own and send it in: I will consider including it with the app. DropBox will no longer nag you with authentication requests every time you run VGB, and both Gallery and DropBox should now work on Kitkat SD cards.
ALL CHANGES:
* DropBox no longer requires login every time you open it.
* Added decorative background in the portrait mode.
* Added Gallery support for SD card folders on Android Kitkat.
* Added DropBox upload from SD card folders on Android Kitkat.
* Hopefully fixed "O" button on Sony Xperia gamepads.
* Upgraded DropBox SDK to the latest version.

Also, people who do not like the backdrop image, can now supply their own or disable it altogether. Please note that you can either search for individual game box art (by selecting "Download Box Art" from the context menu), or enable fully automatic download (by enabling the same option in the File Selector main menu).
ALL CHANGES:
* Added fast-change buttons to the Palette Editor interface.
* Added box art downloader that searches and downloads game box images.
* Gameplay saved back to DropBox after you are done playing.
* Made decorative backdrop optional (see "General | Show Portrait Backdrop").

Hello, All!
In VGB-Android 4.2.7, released today, I started improving the save/restore functionality, the way users asked me to:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
The new release lets you assign custom keys for the Freeze, Restore, and Replay functions. So, if you have got a gamepad with many extra keys, you now have something to do with them in VGB. Also, some users complained that it is really easy to overwrite a saved state by mistake. To fix that, the new VGB comes with the "Confirm Freezing State" option. When enabled, it requires you to click the "Freeze" button twice to save state.
Finally, ZIP files should now work for people with Kitkat devices, while Xperia Play owners will appreciate the ability to assign functions to their "O" button.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added custom key assignments for freezing, restoring, and replaying gameplay.
* Added "General | Confirm Freezing State" option for people who tend hitting "Freeze" by mistake.
* Fixed support for .ZIP files stored on Kitkat SD cards.
* Now allowing to remap the "O" button on Xperia Play gamepad.
* The "REWIND" hardware key now replays recent gameplay.
* The "RECORD" hardware key now freezes gameplay state.
* The "PLAY" hardware key now restores gameplay state.
* No longer showing box art for .ZIP files, as we cannot identify them.
* Moved "Screen Orientation" option to the "Video" tab.
* Reordered items in the "Video" tab.

Hello, All!
The next VGB-Android 4.2.8 release is up on the Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
I have added what should be the one-click support for Wiimote controllers. Simply check the "Input | Wiimote Support" option and Wiimote should work. If it does not, email me. Also, the BACK button found on many gamepads should be fully functional and assignable now.
Starting with this release, I am no longer disabling VGB when you have LuckyPatcher installed. Many people complained about this limitation, so I removed it. Please, do not use this as an excuse to pirate VGB - help me developing it by getting yourself a legal copy :)
Finally, I have had a chance to test VGB on a real x86-based Android device, Dell Venue 8. After I have found and fixed a slight problem with scanline effects, it runs perfectly, smoother than on most ARM devices.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added "Input | Wiimote Support" option for easy and painless Wiimote support.
* LuckyPatcher use now accepted, by public demand, but you will see a warning.
* Gamepad BACK button fully usable and assignable.
* Fixed scanline effects on x86-based Android devices.
* Tested VGB on a real x86-based Android device (Dell Venue 8).
* Fixed crashes when downloading DropBox files.
* Fixed crash when setting backdrop location.
* No longer showing box art for .ZIP files, as we cannot identify them.
* Moved "Keep Screen On" to the "Video" tab.
* Fixed some Russian translations.

Hello, All!
Starting week with a fresh VGB-Android 4.3 release:

In this release, I am replacing the old and clunky Layout Editor with the new Joystick Editor, letting you independently resize buttons. The new editor also shows screen edges each button sticks to and the button labels (something that has been sorely lacking from the old Layout Editor). All virtual joystick size, shape, and opacity settings have been moved from the Settings dialog to the Joystick Editor.
ALL CHANGES:
* Now showing current key assignments in "Assign Keys".
* Replaced "Edit Layout" option with "Edit Virtual Joystick".
* Buttons can be individually resized in Joystick Editor.
* Added scale, shape, and transparency options to Joystick Editor.
* Added gravity indication with dotted lines to Joystick Editor.
* Added button labels to Joystick Editor.
* Removed separate joystick size, shape, and opacity settings.

Hello, All!
Starting this week with the GameBoy Color/Classic emulator release. VGB-Android 4.3.5 is now available for download:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
I have finally found and fixed the bug that left defunct Linux processes every time a new activity started. Thus, the new VGB should quit cleanly, without leaving stuff hanging in the system. While looking for this bug, I have also optimized the utility library to compute global values once, rather than every time you start a new activity (Settings, Cheatopedia, Exchange, etc). This made switching between activities much faster. Finally, I am now using a single copy of Google Analytics, and only starting it when needed. Ah, and there are cheats for seven more games, in case you care :)
ALL CHANGES:
* Fixed defunct processes left by some activities.
* Optimized game start times by only computing common values once.
* Optimized switch times between Settings, Exchange, etc.

Hello, All!
The next VGB-Android 4.4.1 update is available from the Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
This update fixes the sprite priorities when shown over a window. As result, the visual glitches are gone from Tetris Blast, Boxing, and George Foreman's Boxing. I have also removed the garbage from Super GameBoy screen frames and made line-coincidence interrupt happen immediately, if the program sets LYC register to the current scanline.
Several people asked to make the GameBoy Model setting permanent, so that they could force VGB into GameBoy Classic or GameBoy Color mode. That setting is permanent now. If you mess it up, just set it back to "Automatic" to restore the original behavior.
ALL CHANGES:
* Fixed sprites-over-window display to avoid hiding sprites.
* Fixed corrupted Super GameBoy backdrop on startup.
* Made LYC IRQ happen instantly when LYC set to the current scanline.
* Made GameBoy model setting persistent. No need to set it every time.
* Set model back to "Automatic" if you are having problems.
* Fixed invisible pieces in Tetris Blast.
* Fixed boxer's face in the Boxing intro sequence.
* Fixed opponent's image in George Foreman's Boxing.

Hello, All!
Today's VGB-Android 4.4.2 release addresses complaints about the sound emulation being "off". I have reviewed and properly implemented the noise channel emulation, accounting for most complaints:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
I have also fixed saving and restoring Super GameBoy palette and attribute table, so that SGB games no longer start up with scrambled colors. People, who asked to have a custom background for each game, also got their wish in this release. See the complete list of changes below.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added proper noise channel emulation.
* Fixed saving and restoring SGB colors.
* Added configurable noise generator API to EMULib.
* No longer muffling noise channel (no more need).
* Added individual backdrops. For Game.gb, place backdrop into Game.gb.back.png.
* Aligned backdrop to the bottom on stretched screens.
* Added explanation bubbles to the Cheat Hunter.
* Fixed default settings initialization.
* Added missing string translations.

Hello, All!
VGB-Android 4.4.3, the new version of my GameBoy Color and GameBoy Classic emulator, is now online and ready for download:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
Continuing with sound improvements, I have made a few final adjustments to the noise generator emulation. The jingling effect should be gone, and the noise frequency range extended. The francophones will be happy to find that VGB now speaks French, thanks to Sylvain St Amand's help. Finally, for Kitkat+ users, I have added the immersive mode support, completely hiding Android UI during gameplay. Look below for the complete change list.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added French translations, thanks to Sylvain St Amand.
* Fixed random noise generator (jingle gone).
* Fixed saving and restoring sound chip state.
* Limited noise frequency to the sampling rate.
* Removed all other artificial frequency limits.
* Added immersive mode support for KitKat and newer.
* Autohiding title bar when "Hide Title Bar" enabled.
* You must start or finish your fling at the top to toggle title bar.

Hello, Everyone!
I've published VGB-Android 4.5 today. This release should make happy Samsung Galaxy device owners, as well as everyone with a high-resolution screen. VGB now works in the mini-window mode and may also share the screen with other apps on Samsung devices. I have also added optimized assembly routines for scaling GameBoy screen to 800x720, 960x864, and 1280x1152 resolutions, in case you do not like the OpenGLES hardware acceleration. Finally, the File Selector Search feature now lets you search by name, instead of returning all GameBoy files it finds.
On the bug fighting front, I have fixed the automatic frame skip, accelerated video and audio not being enabled when you install the app. The jitter problem with both auto frame skip and accelerated video enabled is also gone.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added CPU routines for scaling GameBoy screen to 800x720+ pixels.
* Added split-screen and popup window for Samsung Galaxy devices.
* Added keyword searching to the File Selector Search.
* Fixed auto frame skip when OpenGLES video enabled.
* Fixed reenabling UI with a fling on Kitkat+ phones.
* Reenabled automatic frame skip by default.
* Reenabled accelerated video and audio by default.
* Flinging from the top or the bottom toggles the UI.
* Removed deprecated code, settings, and resources.

Hello, All!
It is the last day of the year, and the last VGB-Android release of this year. Those of you, who are meeting the new year alone, in front of TV, now have a healthier alternative to getting yourself drunk. The rest may just follow the link to give kids something to do:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
The new VGB-Android 4.5.1 addresses several user requests. It adds GameBoy Light emulation, an option to always show box art rather than screenshots, and removes unused virtual buttons from the top of the screen. I have also fixed a few nasty bugs. If you had VGB randomly lock up, this problem should now be gone. Also gone is the problem with unresponsive controls when running VGB in the split-screen mode. See below for the other changes.
ALL CHANGES:
* Free VGB for Windows can be found at http://fms.komkon.org/VGB/
* Added GameBoy Light emulation.
* Added "Show Box Art First" option to the File Selector.
* Removed unused FIREL/FIRER virtual buttons, by public request.
* Fixed running VGB in the lower half of split-screen.
* Fixed OpenGLES lockups on Mali GPUs (Samsung, RK, etc).
* Fixed flickering border when simulating scanlines on x86 devices.
* Made screenshots and box art display bigger on large screens.
* Hiding the title bar is now the default behavior.
* Fixed premature hiding of the title bar.
Happy New Year!

By popular request, I have also added the "General | Reset All Settings" option, so that you do not need to uninstall the whole app to get rid of incorrect settings. Hello, All!
The new VGB-Android 4.7.2 release is out this morning:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
This release adds support for custom virtual joystick skins. All you need to do is download a template image from my web site, edit it, and place it into /sdcard/VGB directory. After that, you can enable your skin by selecting it in the Joystick Layout Editor. I have also listened to the current users and disabled the action bar on devices that have physical MENU button. It appears that most people prefer plain menus to Google-approved action bar icons. For those who do like the action bar, there is the "Enable Action Bar" option in the Settings. Finally, I have added cheats for 9 more games, including Cyraid, Daikatana, and Cutthroat Island.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added joystick skins, place your own skin into /sdcard/VGB/Controls.png.
* Sample joystick skin image available at http://fms.komkon.org/EmuAndroid/#Skin.
* Use "Input | Layout Editor | Shape | Custom Skin" to enable your skin.
* Made action bar optional on devices with MENU button (off by default).
* Added "General | Enable Action Bar" option for devices with MENU button.
* Added cheats for Cyber Tiger and Cyraid.
* Added cheats for Daikatana and Darkman.
* Added cheats for two Daffy Duck games.
* Added cheats for Cool Spot Adventure.
* Added cheats for Crazy Castle.
* Added cheats for Cutthroat Island.

Hello, All!
The next VGB-Android 4.7.3 release is ready for download:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
For this release, I have updated the backdrop image, so that it properly connects to the bottom of GameBoy screen. You can also have custom per-game backdrops: if you have Game.gb, place custom backdrop into Game.back.png in the same folder. On devices, where Android does not let apps write to the external SD card, VGB will now create /sdcard/VGB folder and use it for saving game states.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added new, nicer backdrop image in portrait mode.
* You can have custom backdrop for each game in Game.back.png.
* Changed the backdrop rendering, removing the gap below the screen.
* Now automatically creating /sdcard/VGB if missing.
* When VGB cannot write SD card, it will save to /sdcard/VGB.

Hello, All!
VGB-Android 4.8.3 is now ready for download:

Also added support for the unlicensed Karate Joe cartridge and the ability to save gameplay every few minutes (see "Settings | General | Save Emulation State").

* Disabled DI+HALT bug when DI occurs right before HALT.
* Enabled DI+HALT emulation by default (reinstall app to activate).
* Added support for cartridge type 0x97 (Karate Joe).
* Robocop runs with DI+HALT emulation enabled now.
* The Smurfs runs with default settings now.
* Thunderbirds runs with default settings now.

Hello, All!
I have just published the new VGB 4.9 release for Windows and Linux:
http://fms.komkon.org/VGB/ -- product page
http://fms.komkon.org/VGB/VGB49-Windows-bin.zip -- free Windows binary
http://fms.komkon.org/VGB/VGB49-Ubuntu-x86-bin.tgz -- free Linux binary
This release modifies the DI+HALT CPU bug handling, something I previously introduced in VGB-Android and VGBAnext emulators. When the DI instruction immediately precedes HALT, the bug will not occur. Implementing this behaviour allowed me to enable DI+HALT emulation by default. Hello, All!
I have pushed VGB-Android 5.0.4, a new version of my GameBoy emulator, to the Google Play this morning:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
In this version, I have switched to the newest Android SDK and NDK versions, as well as CLANG C compiler and other up to date tools. Since CLANG is much more serious about reporting problems with the code than GCC, I had to refactor all the native code to get rid of the new warnings.
VGB now supports split window mode on Nougat devices, as well as freeform windows, as soon as Google enables them (or you can enable them yourself in Nougat). Since I do not have any real Nougat devices to test on, I would appreciate any help testing split and freeform windows on the real Nougat-running hardware.
Finally, the new VGB will explicitly ask you to grant some permissions on startup. Please do grant them, or the app may not work properly. See below for all the changes in this release.
ALL CHANGES:
* Switched to Android Nougat platform (android-25).
* Switched to JDK 1.8, NDK 13, CLANG toolchain, newest ANT and ProGuard.
* Refactored all native code, fixing CLANG warnings.
* Added split window support on Android Nougat.
* Added freeform window support for upcoming Androids.
* On Marshmallow+, app asks for permissions on startup.
* Fixed scalable images used for tiles in the File Selector.

Hello, All!
VGB 5.0.5 for Android, published this morning, adds the same improvements and enhancements as iNES 4.6.7 released the last week:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
The GLES shaders, used for scaling and special effects, have been optimized. The new "Audio | Sampling Rate | Automatic" setting lets you choose the best sampling rate and buffer size that your Android hardware reports. At this setting, you should have the minimal audio latency. Just keep in mind that the hardware latency gets added up on top of the "Audio | Latency" setting you choose. See below for all the changes.
ALL CHANGES:
* Optimized OpenGLES shaders used in scaling algorithms and filters.
* Added "Audio | Sampling Rate | Automatic" option for best available sound.
* Added "Audio | Sampling Rate" options for 24kHz and 48kHz sound.
* Always using optimal rate and buffer size when "Automatic" selected.
* Made audio render without glitches at custom sampling rates.
* Now always hiding FAB buttons on devices with no touchscreen.

VGB 5.2.3 for Android, a new version of my GameBoy emulator is available from the Google Play today:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fms.vgb
This release makes sure that the selected GameBoy model and other hardware options in "Settings | Emulation" are saved between emulation runs. There are also improvements to the Joystick Layout Editor, with several bugs fixed and the display rectangle resizable in both directions. ALL CHANGES:
* GameBoy model and other hardware options will now be saved.
* Greatly improved the Layout Editor, fixing many bugs.
* Layout Editor now lets you resize screen in both dimensions.
* Screen rectangle will stay centered while resizing.
* Buttons gravity will be restored when resetting layout.

Hello, All!
I've just published VGB 5.3, the new version of my GameBoy Color, GameBoy Classic, and Super GameBoy emulator:
http://fms.komkon.org/VGB/ -- homepage
http://fms.komkon.org/VGB/VGB53-Windows-bin.zip -- free Windows version

The new VGB adds support for multiple monitors and improves full-screen mode detection on Windows, fixes DirectInput joysticks support and the flickering window issue that appeared after the recent Win10 updates. The Windows version now supports two joysticks at a time (as long as a GameBoy or Super GameBoy game allows for two players) and makes XBox directional pads work. I have also switched the Linux version to PulseAudio sound, so that you no longer need to mess with the OSS sound emulation. See below for all the changes.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added second joystick support to VGB-Windows.
* Added multiple monitor support to VGB-Windows.
* Fixed disappearing window in VGB-Windows.
* Fixed best full-screen mode detection in VGB-Windows.
* Fixed window flicker that appeared after recent Win10 updates.
* Fixed DirectInput joysticks support in VGB-Windows.
* Made directional pads work on XBox gamepads.
* Switched VGB-Linux to using PulseAudio sound.

Hello, All!
The free VGB 5.8 for Windows and Linux, my GameBoy Color, GameBoy Classic, and Super GameBoy emulator, is now available for download:
http://fms.komkon.org/VGB/ -- homepage
http://fms.komkon.org/VGB/VGB58-Windows-bin.zip --Windows binary
http://fms.komkon.org/VGB/VGB58-Ubuntu-x86-bin.tgz -- Linux binary
The new version includes majorly refactored scaling and special effects framework and a simple CPU-based linear interpolation image scaling algorithm. The CPU-based interpolation is used when it is impossible to use GPU to scale screen images. The Windows version has also got file drag'n'drop support and explicit "Video | Interpolate Video | Linear Scaling" option. The Linux version now supports "-linear" command line argument.
ALL CHANGES:
* Added file drag'n'drop support to VGB-Windows.
* Added CPU-based simple linear scaling algorithm.
* Refactored scaling and special effects framework.
* Optimized scaling for large screens and windows.
* Enabled "Video | Stretch Full Screen" option with effects enabled.
* Enabled "Video | Force 4:3 Screen" option with effects enabled.
* Added "Video | Interpolate Video | Linear Scaling" option to VGB-Windows.
