The instructions are quite long. Just hit the "Show" button to see it.

Full Gamecube backup/load tutorial v1.0

--------------------

Phase 1: Initialize the memory card
Tools Needed: PSUL v1.1
Phantasy Star Online Game Disc
Memory Card
Gamecube Broadband Adapter

Note: If you actually play Phantasy Star Online, you may want to use another memory card for this. Also, you only have to initialize your memory card once, not before each rip or game load.

Step 1: Boot Phantasy Star Online Game Disc
Pretty self explanitory.

Step 2: Setup Network Profile

When prompted for the TCP/IP settings, choose manual, do not auto-disconnect, and enter an IP address of 192.168.1.32 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and a default gateway of 192.168.1.100. For the Primary DNS server,

enter 192.168.1.100. Start the PSUL utility on the PC side with the following DOS prompt command: "psul -s". This

make your PC into a sort of Phantasy Star Online game server. Now start an online game using the character you chose and the DOL file will upload to your memory card allowing you to transfer game data to and from your PC.

Step 3: Configure TCP/IP on your PC

Access the TCPI/IP properties for the network card on your PC and change the IP address to 192.168.1.100

with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. No default gateway is required for this to work.

Step 4: Create a Character for Online Play

Next, create a character. It really doesn't how or which character you choose. When prompted for your hunter's license, enter anything you wish. It also might be handy to select the save password to memory card as well so you don't have to enter it each time.

Step 5: Start it all up

On your PC, run "psul -s" at a DOS prompt. It should then say waiting for connection or someting to that effect. Next, start an online game of Phantasy Star using the character profile you chose. It will then try to connect to your PC. If successful, your PC will display the messages "Saving user info on memory card..." and

"Done..."

--------------------

Phase 2: Extract ISO Image from Game Disc

Tools Needed: Gamecube ISO Ripping Server 1.0.0.29
Download Here: No link currently known
Initialized Memory Card (See Phase 1)
Phantasy Star Online Game Disc
Gamecube Broadband Adapter

Step1: Boot Phantasy Star Online Game Disc
Pretty self explanatory.

Step 2: Start Gamecube ISO Ripping Server Run the Gamecube ISO Ripping Server tool on your PC you configured above. Select the destination folder and name for the Gamecube game image file to be created then start the utility. You should get a message stating that it is waiting for a connection.

Step 3: Start Phantasy Star Online game in online mode
Start Phantasy Star Online in online mode. It will connect to the server running on the PC and start downloading the ripper code from it. When this is complete, a red screen will appear on the Gamecube and shortly thereafter, you will be prompted to insert the disc you want to rip within 10 seconds. Do this, and once the 10 seconds has passed, your PC will start downloading the image from the disc. When complete, you should have a game disc image on your PC approximately 1.4GB in size. Approximate download time is about an hour or so.

--------------------

Phase 3: Stream Game Disc Image to Gamecube

Tools Needed: Paradox GC Disc Server
Download Here: http://www.maxconsole.com/?mode=downloads&filter=gc&categoryid=45
Initialized Memory Card (See Phase 1)
Phantasy Star Online Game Disc
Gamecube Broadband Adapter

Step 1: Start Paradox GC Disc Server

Start the Paradox GC Disc server on your PC. Select the correct IP address for the Gamecube and the Gamecube disc image file you wish to load. Click start then start an online game in Phantasy Star Online. It should connect to your PC and start executing the game you uploaded.

--------------------

Known Issues:

Remeber you are streaming game data to the Gamecube at 10 Megabits/sec. The broadband adapter is capable of transferring data at 100 Megabits/sec., however, since the good folks at Sega assumed nobody has Internet faster than 10 Megabits, they decided to lock the transfer speed down to that rate. There is currently as of this writing no known fix for this but I hear something is in the works and may be released before Christmas. Games with lots of FMV may run choppy due to peformance issues with the network speed and in-game music is usually affected as well.

One fix that helps in some cases is to remove your memory card when you get the group intro press start screen prior to the actual game executing. To save your progress, insert your memory card when you need to save and remove it when save completes.

In other words, it's fairly similar to how you would copy a Dreamcast game.

Although the disc formatting is proprietary for both the Dreamcast and the Gamecube, being able to access a device in the system, namely the disc drive, can be achieved in a fashion very similar to hacking into a PC's hard disk through a network connection.

However, making functional copies that can actually work in a real Gamecube is a different story. Nintendo took making a proprietary optical format for their system a few steps further than Sega did with the Dreamcast. You would have to fabricate discs with the same physical formatting found on a real Gamecube disc, which would be writing the TOC at the outer edge on RSDL media with the linear track working in the opposite direction of a regular optical disc. I don't know of any DVD recorder, save those leased from Nintendo to their third parites (most likely made by Matsushita Electric, parent of Panasonic), that can do this.

But, that doesn't mean you can't play copies at all. Of couse, it's possible to play backups with emulation. But you sure do need a powerful and screaming fast computer to do it (and one hell of an emulator as well). - Reinhart

Well, that's mostly right, but do you mean are OTP-like pressed (built)? That's only for some special DVD9, for the PS2 for example, on the layer 1 (the secod layer)

For the GameCube, if memory serves me, the track is written backwards, or in a similar direction as a phonograph record. The GC is based on DVD, implementing a 650 nm laser for reading just like DVD, but that's where the similarities end.

Some discs are RSDL (I think) while others are single layer. I should've mentioned that I'm not too clear about whether or not some GC discs were dual layer or not, so I apologize if there is any error. I recall that my brother has numerous GC games, including a few I seem to remember were RSDL, but that has been a while ago.

I have only three GC discs and they are all single layer (a way to see if a disc is single or dual layer is to look at the mint codes. if there's two seperate codes sometimes followed by two seperate barcodes, then it's likely a dual layer).

And, of course, all GC discs are replicated by Matsushita Electric for Nintendo. More precisely, Panasonic Disc Services Corporation. - Reinhart

Good info, but are you sure the GC media are written backwards? Can you point a link or good faq? That would be good to read as I'm not pretty sure about it.

I don't think GC dual layer mini DVDs are released btw.

Let me put this so everyone can understand why you can't burn GameCube games.

The GameCube CD's are 1.5 GB in size and are like a mini-disc. All CD/DVD readers/writers read and burn CD's from inside going outwards. The GameCube does it the other way around, so only the GameCube can understand them. Even if you burn a mini-CD the GameCube will not read them and there is no such thing as a chip.

You can burn your gamecube games and play it in the gamecube.
But the gamecube requires a mod chip such as Viper.
But not all of the DVD/Mini DVD-R brands works.
You can also replace the gamecube case with a bigger one so a full size
DVD-r fits.

Most DVD-R works except som cheap no-names

Mini DVD-R: DVD-R Traxdata Mini 1,46GB 4x: should work
SONY DVD-R 1.4GB handycam: doesn't work
TDK DVD-R 1.4GB scratchproof: doesn't work
MAXELL DVD-R 1.4GB: sometime boots, but then loose sync
DATAWRITE DVD-R 1.4GB: on some drives it works 100%

Is a command line utility used to upload/stream ISO (GCM, GC game images) and DOL (GC executables) files from PC to GC. Easy to find with a google search, anyway get it here (http://modthatcube.pxn-os.com/main.htm), files section

so i bought a scratchy copy of windwaker from gamestop ( i hate gs:fuckyou: ) anyway i had to clean it with my scratch removal kit to get it to play since it didnt work at first. so anyway im kinda worried about how long it will surive (im a collector and right now i want a the full zelda anthology) so i was wondering if i could get a mini disk and copy the iso of windwaker to it. i guess would a normal minidisk have enough space to hold the game. also can the gamecube read generic disks? (i know the xbox cant)

I think you mean 8 cm Mini-DVD. Yes, but the GC it's a bit choosy about brands, only a few would work depending on your DVD burner too, and supposing you can to load it via soft or hard mod. Do you want further info? Take a look here (http://modthatcube.pxn-os.com/)

Pardon me if i haven't understood correctly but what i got out of this is that to create a gcm file i have to connect my gamecube to my computer.
well if i had a gamecube i wouldn't be downloading emulators would i ?

My question is: can i emulate originaly bought gamecube games without owning a gamecube

hagbard
May 6th, 2006, 22:08
Yes you can, but have to find the GCM (ISO) images of the games by yourself, it's not allowed here to ask for them. Also you should know GC emulators work very slow on today's PCs

I'm not sure if I have undertood correctly, but I only know how to extract the whole data in the GC Mini DVDs to a PC, and the result should be a GCM/ISO file.

Anyway, if you want to create a GCM image in order tu burn and run it on a real GC, you might try GCIC and GC-Tool. You can get that tools here:

You'll probably get some games to load and run but not perfectly.

System requirements:
GFX: Fastest Video Card you can find... (at least 500MB)
CPU: The Fastest CPU you can find...
RAM: 1GB Strongly Recommended...
Audio: Any Windows/DirectX-compatible soundcard.

If so, would making a bit-for-bit copy of the disc and reversing the order of the bits make it accesible?

If not, does anyone know the structure of the disc?

I do not know if it is a fact but I have heard about it before and only way to know is to contact Nintendo of America for a fact answer. :)

You can burn it with DVDR and run on Wii for a mod and if you dont have wii then you can with Game Cube called Viper. :)

You will need a broadband adapter, PSO Ep.I&II and a cross UTP cable. The only other option is using a modchip. The cable, game and bba costed me about 45 Euros together, so that's not too bad. Remember that in this way you can leave your Gamecube unmodded.

gamecube discs do not run backwards, and this is how you prove it:
1) Tke the disc out of the gamecube and turn it on
2) push the laser to the back of the console
3) close the lid, wait a second and open it up
4) you should notice that the gamecube has moved the laser back to read the disc from the inside out.

hope that clears something up.

I just need percent calculator (https://percentagecalculator.io/) someone to tell me how to access the files on the disc from my drive so I can copy them to my computer. I would be very greatful for help. (Oh, and I don't want to do the thing with Phantasy Star Online.)

Thanks a bunch!

You can use Shazam to find the song you want probably.

@tdude51: no

@someidiot: yes, but it's not the only method.

@yugiohmaster: Using the GC's BBA (Broad Band Adapter) plugin with network cable to your PC / Router, but with no "emulator", just some apps

can somebody explain to me how to just hook up your gamecube to your pc and use your emulator to play the game off the gamecube

I have only three GC discs and they are all single layer (a way to see if a disc is single or dual layer is to look at the mint codes. if there's two seperate codes sometimes followed by two seperate barcodes, then it's likely a dual layer).

If the question is to find which games use dual layer disks, the Dolphin wiki has that covered. According to the page there are only 13 dual layer games.
