It seems that one of the few few few issues I have running paper mario through P64 1.6 is when I get a level up the emulator basically crashes and no error message is left. Other misc issues are - slight graphical issues with the pause menu of the game and sometimes the background (or layering?) flickers.

With Donkey Kong 64 only real issues (albeit small) are bits of graphical ugliness around the boarder of the game and when getting into a game a quick yellow screen or two before it shows DK (or other kong) coming out of the front of the island.

That sounds like a graphics driver problem to me, or an improperly installed DirectX. What graphics plugin are you using?

Jabo's Direct3D 8.1.6 This computer is over 4 - 5 years old, it is quite weak and yet I can get ~60 - 130 FPS for each game.

Try Jabo's Direct3D 6, it's much better. There's less errors.

That may solve the graphical issues which are minor. How about not being able to level up in Paper mario?
