Controller issues

I am playing final fantasy 8 and got to a part where I half to run. But when I try it won't let me. I think it may have something to do with the R2 L2 buttons.

what emulator
what plug in
what controller model
Are the L2 R2 buttons are triggers ?

It is ePSX emulator. It's an Xbox controller so the buttons are triggers. And there are a few different plugins, I think I'm using the gpuPeteOpenGL2

that is most likly the issue, what does the plugin report for L2 and R2? If its an axis your going to have issues. However, most of those types of triggers also trigger a button. Either from a light press or hard press. So in the plugin you needs to either light press the trigger when detecting or have it held all the way down when detecting. It may take a lot of experimenting. Once the plugin shows a button in there box you got it.
