Desmume Pokemon Sprit Gold emulation problems

Hi, I'm new here and was wondering if somebody could help me with a problem that I'm having. Keep in mind that I'm an intel-based mac user. I use Desmume and found a rom of PokemonSpiritGold.nds. This is a modded version of Pokemon HeartGold. When I load it up, it works fine until I got to the cave before the town with the first gym leader. After that, I began to get these "black walls" or pieces of the environment missing. It was just black in that portion. This would cause the emulator to freeze. I was wondering if there was a way to solve this problem. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
