my GBA emulator keeps giving me a save error, help??

I just downloaded a GBA emulator onto my Mac, and every time I try to save within any game it gives me a pop up window saying something about a "battery save error"
should I try getting a new emulator or is there some way to fix it?

If it has a saved state feature, use that instead, it can serve as a save.
