best game pad?

I am starting to get into there emulators and i am very thankful for all the work put in. I want to purchase a game pad. But which one? I am running vista. And mainly will be using n64. But would like compatibility with sega (including dreamcast).

Anyone out there who can help of choose the right one and how to set it up?

If you are not that in to it, you could always get cheaper less capable adapters on ebay. Or a lot of people liek that boring old 260 pad that uses ximput.
