There are currently no PS2 emulators that can play games at a playable speed.
Don't bother trying them!!!!!

I think Cxbx is the only modern game emulator that is even capable of playing any games at full speed ;) Turok is playable and runs at perfect speed.

its very playable, but with a few bugs its really not all that bad. the biggest problem is that it requires a modded xbox to play games with (which kind of defeats the purpose of using an emulator). Cxbx cant convert xbe files by itself yet

Lol, do you think there will be a day when your PS2 or X-Box emulator will be as perfect as the ZSNES is to Super Ninteno? If so, it's scary to think what the big comercial consols will be like then..........

Ps2 emulation is a joke. So is CPS3 and SEGA Model 3, computer hardware is just too weak at the present time to emulate them properly. As I've always said when people ask about those unemulated games(like SF3), there's no reason to develope the emulators for them until N64 emulation is perfected IMO.

Ps2 emulation is a joke.
That emulation is not a joke. Only takes time at emulating them. So as well as other Arcade board which is unemulated at the present time.

Note :
CPS3 board seemed to be able to be cracked by the experts. So, probably in the next months' time, we will see CPS3 games are listed in MAME soon.

Which is the correct bios file extension ?

Hi monpics :

The configuration window of the emulator does not read any *.bin file contained in the \bios\ directory. Is "bin" the correct bios file extension ?
Iīve downloaded a zipped file from driver guide web site with almost 10 bios files, and no one seems to be suitable for the emulator.
Iīve checked in the ini directory where the current configuration is written and the bios directory is correct.

BIOS for PS2
SCPH10000.bin
SCPH30004.bin
SCPH70004.bin
SCPH39001.bin

Note : It really doesn't matter if you rename it as it will detect the CRC of the file to determine that file is a PS2 BIOS file.

Hi montpics :

Now I understand what you mean with unplayable games in PS2 emulation.
The frames go so slowly that is crazy.
Well, the emulator works, but it's just anecdotic.
I was pushed by my son to get this emulator. My PC is a pretty new one with Athlon 64, graphics video card, and 512 mbytes RAM, so I thought that it would run at a playable speed, but not, it's so slow that it's boring.
I've tried with 2 bios files (Europe, 2001 and 2004) but there is no change. I was using the SSE2 version of the emulator. I should try the non SSE, but I think it will go even slower.

As I've always said when people ask about those unemulated games(like SF3), there's no reason to develope the emulators for them until N64 emulation is perfected IMO.

I do not think that the problem with ps2 emulation lies in the power of the pc. Have you even read the ps2 specs? I think that the problem lies in our knowledge of how the programming in the newer systems is. The ps2 emulator pcsx2 has a list of games that it can play well, partially, or not at all. There are some pretty graphic intensive games on the list, like Resident Evil 4. I tried running it on my 1Gb ram and 3Gig dual core processor and 256 Mb Nvidia 6800 Ultra machine and it played pretty good. I then tried playin it on my friends brand new 4 Gb ram, 3.73 dual core, dual 512 Mb nvidia gforce 7900 Gt, with Ageia physics accelerator, and it played exactly the same. So, as you can see, his system is perhaps a little better than mine. And it is definitely about four times overkill to play any playstation 2 game (especially at a low resolution). So, i do not think that the problem lies in "too weak computer hardware."

Getting back to the PSX2 emulator topic, I still believe it was worth someone creating an emu for it. Heres why:

#1 - Practice makes perfect. Even though it doesnt work well, over time those who are working on it, updating etc, can only learn and get better at fixing problems each day.

#2 - There are still some low graphics games that require less power on the PS2 to run. As the emulator gets better at least some games will be working while we all wait for the emulator to improve.

#3 - The best way for the emulator to get better fast is to release that emu. It only helps to have thousands of people using it and discovering bugs, glitches etc. The more people testing and using it, the more people that can help make it better.

My 2.5648 cents :)

Do not ask for, offer or supply materials that are considered illegal
We do not permit discussions about getting any illegal materials.

Downloading Ps2 bios is illegal and the only legal way to get them is to dump them off your ps2.

Please read the rules before posting.

so preflibly you should dump them off your ps2.)

i just d/l'd the emu and what was necessary for the PS2 emu and popped in FF12, the intro plays with some glitches at about 30-40 FPS, and the title screen is upside down, but the game doesn't play after that. So, it looks like it's a very promising emulator (PCSX2 I think it's called), and i look forward to playing PS2 games on my PC in the future, especially if Pete comes out with an awesome OGL plugin for it with all those nice effects you can add to make the game look sweet.

Well I`ve heard that PS2 emulation requires a CPU overcloaked to 5,000 MHz.That is supposed to be P4 I guess :) However what`s the point in buying P4 when you can find a second hand PS2 for 80-100$ without the pads?Think about it :)

1GB video card
8GB DDR3 RAM

and I've seen one here in Saudi arabia for 23000 Saudi Riyals (about 6100 U.S Dollars) but the only exception was that it contains 2 VGA cards with 1 GB DDR3 Each

Hope I made a clear point of my view

C U later guys :)

so i have the pcsx2 and need to dump the bios from my ps2 (right?) but i can't find any one that can tell me how. I really need help on this, i think all i have to do is put the bios in the pcsx2 bios folder (after i dump it from the ps2). my ps2 is one of the big bulky ones, does that make a dif?

At least n64 roms work pretty perfectly now! that a good sign of things to come!

Perfectly?!
Only a few games work like a charm, the rest work badly or they don't work at all!

So, i do not think that the problem lies in "too weak computer hardware."
you know im with you. do you know about the GS configure settings??

Your best way is go to www.pcsx2.net and they can help answer your question. They are the developers of this emulator. :)

If you can trust torrent files go to -- DELETED --. So you can get the p2p program then you can download a copy of PCSX2 with all bios and plug-ins you need.
