how to get logitech dual action to work instead of keyboard for megadrive emulator

Hi I'm now to the world of emulation.
I have a working megadrive emulator but when I try to get it to recognize my logitech gamepad it just freezes..some of the games I wanna play like sensible soccer would be much easier with a gamepad than the keyboard..please help someone...

Do you have the gamepad drivers installed? If your system doesn't recognize your gamepad, the emulator won't either.
