Attempting to Create Save State Crashes ePSXe

I didn't see a similar problem addressed in another thread. I think this is the right place for this question.

As far as I've seen, the emulator runs fine (after eventually figuring out which video plug-in I needed) but I've stumbled upon an unexpected conundrum. When I try to create a save state, whether by pressing F1 in game or by hitting esc to pop back out to the menu to select the option from the menu bar, ePSXe crashes. I'm not sure what relevant information you might need from me to figure out what the problem is, so sorry if I'm missing something.
Video plug-in is P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.18
Game is Legend of Dragoon (running from ISO file)
