I'm new to the Mame world and am trying to set up a Pole Position Mame game in an non-working original Pole Position game. I hope I can find some help here as I really have no idea what I'm doing

What MAME do you use also most MAME games have clones so you may have downloaded a clone you will need to download polepos rom .

If you head over to the mamewah homepage, Minwah (the guy who developed Mamewah) made a modified mame build called shiftermame specifically for use in a driving cab with a 2 position stick like Pole Position. Its available to download from the site and will save you a whole load of aggro when trying to get Mame Pole Poition to run properly using the original 2 position shifter rather than a keyboard.
