I just thought it would be fun to start a thread about this game... If you have tried to play this game at all you will know what I mean xD.

This past week I have had my head deep in all the old-school super mario platform games. I have clocked all of them with the exception of Yoshi's Island, which I just started playing btw, and the original 1983 Mario Bros. Then I tried The Lost Levels...LOL

They all have their respectable levels of difficulty, but 'The Lost Levels' takes the cookie by a long shot :p Wow.

I first tried the NES version and it took me quite a few good hours of sweat and blood to clock it. But it was very rewarding in the end. Wow...

Then I tried the SNES version and it was pretty much the same except once you clock the game, you have to start the game all over again with all new levels and an even more insane level of difficulty. It is shorter than the first half (world D-4 is the last level before you rescue the princess... again) but the level of difficulty is absolutely mind-boggling.

Just a side note of pride... I did it all without saving and loading C:<

It would be interesting to know how many of you have clocked this game? If so, what did you think of the D-4 level on the snes version xD?

In case you haven't already tried this game, it is certainly worth a try imo :)

I have played it on my SNES consol. I don't see much difference from the normal bros game. What's so special about these Lost levels? Is there maps that was supposed to be in the original mario bros game?

They're not REAL lost levels, it's just a cool name. xD

I like the game, I have it on my MAME Cab. It's a bit hard, though... :P

It was supposed to be the sequel to the 1985 super mario bros. title. However it was only released in Japan because it was believed to be 'too hard for westerners' :p.

"The Lost Levels" is the real Super Mario Bros 2, but it was released only in Japan. The american Super Mario Bros 2 is based on Doki Doki Panic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doki_Doki_Panic).

Did you play through also World 9?
Of just 1-8 and then A-D?

And yes, "The Lost Levels" as they named it is the real SMB2 and is better than original in every way... sadly I can't play that game at all with Luigi...

There is a world 9 o.O?

Oh and I noticed that Luigi jumps higher than Mario but doesn't run as fast.
