View Full Version : How to get NTSC filter to work on ZSNES?

Every time I click on this filter, zsnes crashes. Apparently this is a common problem for windows xp users who have a GeForce 8800 GT video card.

I reeeeeeeally want to get this filter to work. I have been using bsnes lately since that is the only alternative. But I want it to work on zsnes because bsnes can be a little laggy.

Please, does anybody know how I can get this filter to work on zsnes. I am so frustrated with this problem

Hmm... it looks like there's a compatibility issue with Nvidia drivers. I've tested the NTSC on three different computers I own, all of them running NTSC filter except the one with GeForce 9800 GT (which is the same 8800 GT but rebranded). The other two computers are a laptop running integrated Intel graphics and the other one an old Radeon 9200 SE.

Why do you want NTSC filter by the way? It doesn't improve graphics for me. Or you want to run a 50 FPS PAL game in 60 FPS?

EDIT: I found a solution. I strongly recommend that you set a full screen resolution greater than 640x480 in emulator before doing this. You need to manually enable NTSC filter through zsnesw.cfg (open it with notepad) and search for "NTSCFilter=0". All you need to do is to change 0 to 1 like this: "NTSCFilter=1".

The same can be done with HQ filter which makes ZSNES crash too.

Thanks man for the info. I will try it out and tell you how it went ;)

Thanks, it works now. Just it doesn't look as good as on BSNES. The NTSC filter on ZSNES has these ugly scanlines and there are less option for the NTSC filter on ZSNES than there are on BSNES.

Bsnes is the better all round emulator nowadays anyway. Much more accurate too.

NTSC filter workaround works for me but not the HQ one. I'm using a P4 HT and it may not be powerful enough I suspect. Have to check out bsnes.

Checked out bsnes, great emulator that actually lags when I use filters. That shouldn't happen on a P4. NTSC mode in bsnes is pure retro awesomeness however! Colors look dithered in bsnes as opposed to ZSNES, ZSNES may be a tad too bright. Should definitely tweak the settings for maximum emulation accuracy.

I love the NTSC filter to bits :) It looks spectacular on bsnes. I will never use the zsnes emulator again :D
