I heard theres a way to burn Wii games and run them without a mod chip or Twilight Hack/Homebrew Channel. How do I do that?

You can't play burned Wii games without a modchip.
The Twilight Hack let's you play homebrew, WiiWare and Virtual Console games without modding your Wii, but still no burned games.
So, a modchip is the only way.

Well is there a way to do it WITH the Homebrew Channel?

there is a way, I've done it, and I dont need HBC anymore since I installed the backup loader as a channel, clicky (http://gbatemp.net/?act=module&module=blogs&member=WiiGator)
...many games work, few don't, and there is no dual-layer support(SSBB is currently the only DL game), but you can still play a hacked SSBB version, most SSE movies removed, the samus/pikachu intro is replaced by all SSE movies except some character intros, everything else is fine except the demo nes/snes games, and no I can't provide a link to the torrent.:bleh:
I also tried Naruto Shippuuden EX3 and it works near flawless, there is lag in 1p mode when too many enemies are near.

I still need Twilight Hack or Homebrew Channel (same thing if you think about it as far as needing it) to install that though wouldn't I?
And it doesn't matter Brawl doesn't work on it, I already bought the game.

Well, it seems I should have looked better...
Thanks for the info :)
@RiderLeangle: I think like alexxi said, you only need the Twilight Hack to install the backup channel.

Well what I was asking was if I had to have those to use this, looks like I do.

twilight hack is only needed to install HBC, you can use a wad installer with HBC to install the backup loader as a channel.

I was planning on getting homebrew channel anyways whenever I get Twilight Princess and an SD card. Now I just gotta speed up the process.
EDIT: If theres a firmware update and I install it, will that delete the Backup Loader or files that make it work?

probably, or it could brick your wii, there's a way to remove the update parts of the game iso using brick blocker (http://wbb.rockman18.com/?page=home&ln=en).

I was reffering to if Nintendo releases new firmware like 3.5 or something.
alexxi

:dot: I was refering to any update, nintendo can disable hombrew apps or brick your wii or remove/fix bugs/glitches in some games.

Well I don't understand what that thing you linked to in that last post is than.

What is the WiiBrickBlocker ?
It's a small piece of software that enables you to patch an Iso file before you burn it. A Wii DVD consists of 3 partitions, one of them is the update. The WiiBrickBlocker modifies these partitions and replaces one of them without any update. You just have to choose your Iso file, and click Patch, it only takes 30sec... After that you can burn your Iso and the game will launch without an update so you will be able to play your import game.

It is it an alternative to the backup channel or do you use it on your PC to correctly burn games. That's what I'm not getting.
alexxi
January 31st, 2009, 10:28
You use it on your pc, it just removes the update from the iso, nothing else, also to play a legit(non-backup) copy of Brawl requires an update that comes with the game(some games require specific updates to work), updates from a different region game can brick your wii. This should help you with your wii hacking...:

Well the only game out there with an update is Brawl, and I've already had that since the day it came out so I've had the update for almost a year now so it sholdn't be a problem.
EDIT: BTW. Does this Backup Channel play burnt games from other countries?

...Does this Backup Channel play burnt games from other countries?
yes, I have Naruto EX3(released only in japan) and a Pal SSBB.
Also, when playing other region games you might have to force a video mode(...I have to force NTSC every time when I want to play Brawl:angry:, if i dont the screen will be messed up).

Wait, Even though it's a Gamecube Launcher it runs Wii games right? (this is probably a stupid question I bet)

Whoops, Page was updated, I feel dumb.
I probably also should feel dumb for not seeing an edit button

Backup launcher gamma only runs wii games, no gc games.

I know. Like I said, I scrolled down and noticed that's what I as looking for. The page was updated for something about a Gamecube backup thing XD.
So how exactly does it work anyways? does it install a channel you use or does it get the original Disk Channel to read them? Or does it not even use a channel and just play the games on the disk straight from the program on the Homebrew channel?
RiderLeangle
February 11th, 2009, 02:38
Do we even have an edit button here?!
And would this disk work fine?

I think the you can't edit a post after 30mins...
DVD-Rs are best.
If you want to try and see if your current dvd's will so the job skip ahead to the Burning section. But if you don't have any dvd-r's laying around you can buy the listed brands at sites like newegg and tigerdirect or even your local electronics shop. Keep in mind that dvd+r's might work too, but for the wii to read those your need to set the book type to dvd-rom, you can find out how here (http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=121331). You can also use rewritable dvd's but few wii's read them, most have trouble reading them.
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=129239
..also, I used imgburn, and it worked fine with x3 and x4 burning speed.

February 11th, 2009, 19:54
Well what are some games that fit on it? I tried Tatsunoko vs. Capcom which didn't fit so I tried compressing it which didn't work.
Well is there some way to get a good success rate from RW's? Because sounds like using one disk and erasing it instead of having tons of disks lying around sounds more practical.
And they should make an edit button that lasts forever instead of making people double post...
RiderLeangle
February 12th, 2009, 20:08
Well I tried DVDx too which didn't get it to work (even though you don't need that for backup loader).
And how do I play burnt Gamecube games on Wii anyways? I missed out on alot of those

Wii games are usually not higher than 4.5GB, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is only 3gb(compressed/rar).

I know that. The program I was using sucked.
Well I don't have DVD-R's and my Wii isn't one that wants to read DVD-RW so what should I do?
And how much do DVD-R's run for?
alexxi

cheap, these are the ones I use.

Someone told me that Maxell DVD-R disks didn't work too well. And neither do Sony DVD-Rs either.
So what is guaranteed to work every try?

Maxell DVD-Rs work fine for me, you can try any -R dvds, you don't need any specific ones.
