Welcome aboard. Perhaps you're the youngest member around here, so I'll explain as clear as I can.
First, which version are you using?

Yo lil kid, u might be able to play it in version 2.7, I'm not sure. I have a DS and because the DS is still a new console, downloading an emulator and roms is illegal, still. so idk

You should get version 2.6 since it auto selects the appropiate save type for each game (at least most of them).
Keep in mind version 2.6 is publycly available and not 2.6a which is the most current version, I mean, only available to donators.
Get the latest public version here (http://nocash.emubase.de/gba.htm).

To fix this all you have to do
is go to emulation setup
and change the NDS ( nintendo ds ) backup media option to
FLASH 256KBytes
Restart the game and now it should work
hop that helped :)

it does sound like a save type issue, id suggest trying it in VBA(VisualBoy Advanced), that has DS and Advanced/GBC/GB support.(in the newer non-sdl versions).
i prefer VBA personally anyways, but, if you still want to use no$gba, i would seek the newest version, or ask for source, and build it for youre platform.
