Controls don't work with MAME

Weird, none of the games controls work, it does'nt matter how much I change them. Tab and esc work but none of the in-game controls.

Help?

what type of controller is this? or are they..

If you are using mameui, did you enable joystick under controllers is default game options?

When in mame and your looking at the controller config ( tab ) if you select something with the enter key try to hit a button. See if the button code shows up..

Are you using commandline mame and if so have you generated a mame.ini file?.
