i don't know if there is an emulator, but in 2008 -so now or in a few weeks- the wii version with dvd player came out so if you've bought it lately it might work.

it will be able to, but you have to buy a little separate part for it...at least that is what I've heard. I'm to lazy to find an article though.

and also

It does but u have to a buy a serparate adapter for it.

No, if it could be done by software Nintendo would have added it.
There are programs out that can convert DVDs to video suitable to play from a SD card on your Wii.

Not true. The Wii can play DVDs via homebrew.

For some reason nintendo didnt include this in the system software claiming it wasnt possible and that they would have to release an updated version of the wii to enable dvd playback.

That's what I thought. The DvD combatibility probably wasn't impossible its jus Nintendo went a little lazy on the Wii.

I think it was to keep the cost of building the Wii down. I believe that if they were to include the abillty to play DVDs in the Wii from the start, they would have to of paid the DVD forum royalties which would undoubtably have been passed on to us.
