Pokemon Red/Blue Trading

I am going to run a GB/C emulator on my DS. If I put Pokemon Red or Blue on it would I be able to trade or battle with someone who also has Pokemon Red/Blue on their DS?

I'm sorry, I don't know very much about emulators and their capabilities yet.
