I am wanting to buy a Wii and don't know which games have been released. I might have made a post like this in the past. If i have then i have lost the site name sorry. The new gen games look pretty good. Hopefully they release another 2D Metroid game. Those games are just plain genious.

Why do you want to play nes snes ? you can play emulators on pc at free of charge. :)

I realize that and have been doing so. I will not be buying a Wii soely for the VC service. I already explained that. The thing is with the ZNES emulator i use there is some quality loss. I have noticed that there is a little pixization of the games. Sound quality is really good though. That would be my reason to actually pay for these games again unless i can tweak the quality with ZNES emulator. Would i have to download some plug ins to enhance the visual quality?

North America VC games list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virtual_Console_games_%28North_America%20)
For other regions, there are sections to choose at the bottom of the page. (Australia · Europe · Japan · North America · South Korea)

Josh, are you using scanlines at all?

using 25% scanlines and using a video mode that stretches to full screen but keeps the aspect ratio makes it look almost identical to a TV screen for the most part. Also, there are other graphics filters you can try using like 2xSai mode, and some other stuff that can help remove the pixelation, make it look like Yoshi's Island, etc.

As for why anyone would want to play old console games on the Wii, why not? Some people don't like the hassle of Emulation, or the trouble of finding ROMS on their own (look how many people we get looking for ROMs cause they don't know how) or just don't like the idea of it being illegal..

Also some people prefer to play games on their TV in their living room or wherever. Not everyone likes sitting at a PC. There are many reasons.

JoshM22,

I know. I prefer emulators for free too! You can do that with snes9x which I prefer but you can try your favorite snes emulator that have options.

Zach,

You are right about classic Nintendo gamers wanting to play games infront of a TV instead of a computer screen. More comfy couch or bed to sit on. Not only that i hear that some minor graphical improvements and other things have been tweaked with these classic NES and SNES games on the Wii VC. I will try these steps and see whats happens. Thanks

Okay so if i switch for SNES9x can i roll over all my save states from ZNES? I would hope so cause that is the only emulator i have saved games on and have many games saved using this program.

I don't really know about transfering saves, as I've never done it. But as for the graphics options, they should be there in ZSNES.. Although you have to select the proper resolution mode.. There are letters next to the resolutions in the selection list, those codes stand for what can be done in that mode, like support for scaling, or aspect ratio enforcement, support for graphics filters, etc..

Well really the main game that i have the most pixilation is Mortal Kombat series. I used the filters and that fixed the problem for the most part. I guess i will just play the arcade versions or MKII and 3 PS3 VC download for best graphics. Thanks Zach

Yeah, mortal kombat is one of the few games that looked alright when it came out, but doesn't really age well. I usually just stick scanlines on games like that, as it is less intensive than smoothing and other filters, and can really help the game appear better or close to TV / Arcade screen quality

Thanks ulaoulao. I will check that one out.

Yeah, Zach you are right about the MK II and MKIII. They really didn't have the smoothest of graphics. to the games. I guess I am pretty spoiled with the beautiful smoothness of today PC and PS3 games. I have seen some good fan made mods to the game and make it look better. Although some mods really make some of the characters look rediculous. Thanks for the sites and info from all.

Well it appears that the list of games for the Wii Virtual Console info page on Wikipedia is under construction. I will try again. Thanks.

EDIT: I found the page at Wikipedia. It appears there are about 30-40 classic games listed there. There might be more released, but they sure do have the PS Store beat when it comes to classic games. Playstaion needs to get their asses in gear with the old PS1 and PS2 games and getting them up for download.

If you have the PS2 port on Midway Arcade Treasures Vol2 and play it on an HDTV the graphics are pretty smooth there. The only problem with that port is the emulation is too fast. I will be getting the PS3 VC MKII when they come out with the Network Cards in the USA.
