help with joystick

I have a Logitech Dual Action joystick that works fine playing the mame games i downloaded. When i hit the tab button to access my cheat file and such, the joystick moves the choices down but i can't click any buttons to actually get to the cheats. What can i do to correct this? Thanks.:confused:

In game hit TAB, go to 'Input General', then 'User Interface' and you can remap any of the buttons for controlling the UI there.
