I was watching the previews to Speed Racer and it made me remember Fox talking about making a Dragon Ball Z movie back when it was REALLY popular (To think of all the time I spent watching that mindless show when I was ten). Anyways, I thought it had went defunct since DBZ's popularity began to wane as newer and even more retarded shows began to push it out of the way. However, I looked on wikipedia and found myself wrong. The are indeed making a Dragonball movie.

To start off, this movie feels like it is going to not only be awful, but also hilariously horrendous. For starters, the guy that played Spike on Buffy The Vampire Slayer is going to be the main villain. Also, their bringing in some chick from the Real World to play a character. I mean, WOW, talk about digging from the bottom of the well there. Not only that, but it's going to have the same director from Kung Fu hustle (WTF!). I liked Kung Fu Hustle, but why would anyone want to direct such a steaming pile of crap. And finally, this is so bizarre I double checked it on IMDB and found it was true, but it's gonna have Ernie Hudson (The black dude from Ghost Busters) play a character whose description is awfully similar to Krelin. Words fail me as I try to understand who in their right mind would spend any amount of money on such a crappy movie.

this has the making of being really awful, but I haven't seen enough to pass judgement.
This is who plays Goku:

He has the right face, but they better get him on a steroids regiment pronto if he is supposed to be a saiyan. LOL

I believe Warner Bros or someone bought the rights to do a Robotech Live Action also... Hope it is good if they decide to do it, and do it right.

Damn you guys gotta learn to read.
It's got nothing to do with Z, according to the plot outline. It has the plot from the original Dragon Ball, when Goku was a kid. Which is a pretty decent series and worth watching a hell of a lot more than some other crap out there.

I think a Gantz or a Claymore movie would be cool

What is with all the DBZ hate? This reminds me of Pokemon when it was suddenly cool to hate it, and that is another story that I don't have an opinion on. I know people have there own opinions, but where I lived it seemed to happened almost over night. I still like the series to this day even though I don't watch anime as much as I want too. I lack ambition to watch it for some reason even though I'm far from being tired of anime.

I used to watch Speed Racer all the time, but the movie looks like shit.
Ironman is a good movie I went to the theaters to watch it. I recommend seeing it

Sadly, whether you enjoyed the original Dragon Ball or not, it's still gonna suck based on the actors.
I think at first they were discussing a Live DBZ movie, since it was far more popular, but there was too much continuity they had to go over. They are keeping a slightly older Goku though.
What is with all the DBZ hate?
I don't hate it cause I think it's cool to hate it. I hate it because it generally lacks any understanding of the story building process. It tries very hard for things like suspense and fails utterly at it. In another words, I do have a reason why I dislike it. If you enjoy it then there's nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, I used to watch Speedracer back in the day. It's one of those fond memories from childhood. Seems a shame to watch the movie industry basically rape it. And wtf is John Goodman doing in that movie with Christina Ricci??? Seriously!
I need to see Ironman still. I'm kinda interested, which is surprising for me and super hero movies...I mean, after the catastrophe and pillage that was Spiderman...well, you can understand my incredulity.
I agree about DBZ lacking in any kind of story telling process. I mean, it always focused more on the fights than what lead up to them or their significance. It's the equivalent of WCW in anime.
DBZ and Pokemon were maintstream. That is almost enough reason to dislike them.
DBZ was no story telling, just fight "who will win zomg?!" rinse repeat. I dont care for the art style either.
As for Speed Racer.. Never watched the original, don't really care. Not my generation. People will love it, kids who have never heard of it will love it. That's all that matters.
Movies never live up to Books, movies never live up to games or comic books either, these are facts of life.
I can't stand Robert Downey Jr.. He doesn't even look like a super hero. On the other hand I thought Batman Begins was very good. I initially had no interest in it.
You NEVER know until you watch something.. That is just how it is. Granted it took a Vicodin buzz to actually get me to the point where I can watch Inuyasha without changing the channel just to pass time.. At least I don't outright change the channel anymore when nothing else is on anyway.
Kids have very different mindsets.. When I first got into Anime my tolerances were a lot higher than they are now that I am older. That's just how it is.. I can't watch Tenchi Muyo anything these days, because I just outgrew it. I have the movie trilogy but thats it because they are at least slightly more refined and adult, with less slapstick stupidity.

Firstly, I love Tenchi Muyo and Inuyasha. Mabye that's kuz I'm a chick or maybe it makes me juvenile, I don't know. But what I do know is that Inuyasha's story line beats the ever loving fuck out of DBZ/pokemon/digimon/Yu-Gi-Oh. And that's all that really matters. (Not that I'm taking your hatred of them as a personal affront, Zach. You like what you like, I don't give a fuck. I'm just sayin'.)
Also, on the point of Robert Downey Jr., I don't think he's supposed to look like a superhero. I mean, think back to the original Ironman. His character was kind of a super-smart dorky sort of guy if you recall. He wasn't as much hero as every one would think. It's like the notion of Clark Kent VS Superman. It's not like Batman where you go, "OMG! WOULD YOU OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES GOTHAM!?!?! IT'S CLEARLY BRUCE WAYNE!!!" Clark Kent was a good disguise because no one would ever suspect the uber-loser to be the hero. That notion was a little lost here when they made Stark seem like a big, rich, playboy of an arms dealer. It's like going, "Well choose Robert Downey Jr. so that we get this point across...but I guess it doesn't matter because we're gonna change him anyways...oh well, casting's already done. Whoops. Shit."
The problem with Speedracer is that I don't think people will love it. It will be another million dollar flop and people will all make the broad generalization that Speedracer must suck because the movie did. It's going to be another Rollerball or something.
I lol'ed when I read this: "just fight 'who will win zomg?!' rinse repeat"

..the death note live action movies were pretty good and close to the anime/manga, but the DB movie is probably gonna suck IMO, but looks to have good special effects.

... Tony stark was a rich playboy of an arms dealer. Having been an arms dealer was one of his main conflicts as a superhero. Okay, maybe the ORIGINAL comics he wasn't guilty about selling arms (He was still rich and snooty). His first conflict was that he had to deal with having a small machine keep him alive, which he had to keep recharged. This was interesting, but it didn't really connect to the readers. I mean, we can't related to having a metal thingy in our chest "Yeah I know how that feels... Oh wait, no I don't". So then the enternal conflict became that he was an alcoholic. Now Iron man was really reaching out to it's readers. However, this conflict could only be used for so long, so then it became Tony Stark being an arms dealer, and then regretting it later. We can all relate to regret.
Sometimes it's better not to go back to the very original text of a super hero. I mean, Superman at first could only jump really far, bend metal, run faster than a train, and was immune to bullets (but not bursting rounds). Also, he was a bit more cut throat. He had gangsters thrown out of windows. Now is this the Superman we know and love today? Things change over time, especially in the fickle world of comics.
